If you visit the island of Zanzibar, do not skip Stone Town...
If you visit the island of Zanzibar, do not skip Stone Town (Zanzibar city). It is worth a 2 day stop. There are plenty of historic sights to visit; old slave market, anglican church, the spice/fish bazaar, the old fort and Freddy Mercury house. It has also a maze of little streets with plenty of shops for souvenir shopping: paintings, wood carvings, jewelry; both of the african type as well as the more expensive Tanzanite. It has plenty of good restaurants. But most of all the location. Stone Town is right in the middle of the island, so you can do a day trip to Rock Restaurant to the east ( one hour drive) or a visit to Cheetah rock and spice farm to the north( one hour drive) . It is the starting point for half a day tour to prison island with the giant turtles.

Old town full of tourists but where is the money they bring in being spent? Well, we all know the answer to that one but it certainly isn't being spent on the town or the local people! Very little to see and in comparison to most old towns, pretty uninteresting. Easily be done in 1 day

- Stonetown buildings are a vintage but lacks maintenance, it makes the area look a bit untidy. Also the rusted roofing or corrugated sheets makes the aaerial view not beautiful. Painting them and the buildings will bring an added beauty to the image of stonetown.

Friendly people with a lot of places to visit.
However there is a lack of food prices diversity. Most good food is somehow expensive and the cheapest food was bad.
However my favourite place to eat during evening was at the small restaurant near the Mkunazini Anglican Cathedral where delicious rice dishes are served.

We absolutely loved our stay at Emerson on Hurumzi. All the staff are so professional and genuinely friendly, the hotel and the rooms are beautifully designed, and the location is great, right in the middle of the city.
We experienced the rooftop dinner on our first night and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. The food was excellent and the atmosphere among the guests, staff, and entertainers was unforgettable.

Absolutely amazing stay at Tembo! The location is perfect - on the beach, right in the heart of Stone Town, a one minute walk from the night market, old fort, museums, cafes and restaurants. The hotel is very well maintained, with 2 beautiful pools, fast wifi, aircon, fans, lots of hot water, incredible views of the ocean, and a huge buffet breakfast. Highly recommend!
Antonio Beach Hotel & Spa has lovely rooms on the beach. Our room was large, clean, had working AC (although not very powerful), great WiFi, and had hot water. The hotel grounds are very nice, spacious, natural. The pool was wonderful.
