The city is known for its historic Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can explore winding alleys and bustling bazaars. Don't miss a visit to the House of Wonders, the tallest building in Stone Town, offering panoramic views of the city.

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices. However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.

Dirty, smelly, full of approaching ~beach boys, sellers and beggars. Much more aggressive than up north. Mostly came for a Nakupenda tour. Nice place but be aware that it’s crowded - by lots of tourists and then of course even the aggressive up in your face wanting to touch you sellers there too. The more upscaled beach hotels and restaurants are nice though.

Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence. It is worth taking the boat to prison island to learn more about the history and see the turtles. 2 days is sufficient. In the evening there is a night market with different food stalls.

Lots of shops in Stonetown selling the same.

Lots of shops in Stonetown selling the same. Plenty of souvenirs to buy. Check Darajani market for good bargains. Don't forget the spice market. Avoid shopping in Darajani street. Not for tourists. Relaxed lunches at the high terraces of the Swahili house and Emerson house. Supper at Lukmaan (reasonable and cheap), Masa Japanese Restaurant (good and reasonably priced), and Krishna Food House (good and reasonably priced).

I’m from Greece so the beaches in Greece are similar and even better than the ones in Zanzibar so I was not overly impressed by them like most tourists. What I didn’t like was all the people coming up to you all the time trying to sell you stuff. You tell them to go away and they insist. It’s rude and annoying. Also Stone Town is dirty, there’s rubbish everywhere. We went outside for a walk and there were a lot of people around and they smelled bad. It’s like they don’t shower. Too expensive for what it is, nothing is open after 10pm and hospitality (waiters and bartenders) are terrible as if they have no experience. You wait forever, and they don’t attend to you often enough.

Hotel outside area was nice, restaurant was pretty in evenings (needed more lighting at restaurant). Beach was nice but didn’t look like pictures on Booking.com. Comfy loungers. Large bed and spacious room. Aircon and Wi-Fi worked well. Hotel was close to airport and 10 min drive from stone town. Locals were nice on the beach. The cats were super friendly and looked like they were looked after. Pool was nice. Manager asked us for our opinion on hotel before leaving and listened to our considerations which was nice.

We stayed at the hotel after our flight from France as we felt it was useless to drive one hour to our holiday destination late in the evening. The hotel is located two minutes drive away from the airport. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant, room comfortable with a very nice bed, great bathroom with italien walk in shower, nice terrasse and pool area. A great hotel for a night after or before your flight or if you want a modern hotel in Zanzibar city with easy access to Stone town. Very good value for money.

Our stay was great! The included breakfast was very tasty and they offered a sweet and savory option. We arrived early in the morning and they kept our bags and gave us fresh hibiscus juice later while we waited! The front desk people were very kind and welcoming. Our room was great and the air conditioner was amazing. I really appreciated everything that they did for us while we were there. The hotel is in a great location near the beach and easy to be picked up when going on excursions or to the airport!

It is important to know that Tembo Hotel havs several location and not just one. All locations are clean, same as in the photo, same service, everything exceptional, however, be mindful if you wish to stay in the same space with the pool or on the beach. Other than that, I think is the best location to stay at. Best price, friendly staff, very very good food, air conditioning, hot water (not that you will ever want it), safe, close to everything and anything, everything exceptional!!!

The room was very nice, especially the bathroom. The location was perfect, in the middle of Stone Town, next to the Old Fort. Food was really good, especially the breakfast! The pool on the rooftop was the best after our Safaritrip. The view from the rooftop above the city is wonderful. We also had the possibility to leave our luggage in a luggage room after check out. We would definitely recommend this hotel for your short stay in Stone Town!

The hotel is right on the edge of all the happenings in stone town, it is reachable by car/taxi, so you do not have to walk with luggage. Everything inside the little windy roads of Stone Town can be reached good by foot from the hotel. The owner also arranges tours and taxis. The room was pretty big, but mostly empty. It does serve the purpose of sleeping there, but otherwise it has not much to offer. The balcony is pretty, but that's it.

Very good location for walking all over the city. Very close to the beach. The hotel itself has so much character and is just absolutely adorable. Our room had plenty of space and the decorations were beautiful. The bathtub was spectacular in the Kijani room. The owned rand manager Daniela is as welcoming as they come and made us feel like family. We were sad to have only stayed one night! I could recommend this hotel all day!

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous with two pools and beach access. It is filled with old world character, charm, and history. Its location made it a central place for exploring Stone Town. The room was comfortable with a beautiful view of the sea. The staff were attentive, warm and welcoming—often going out of their way to be of help. The restaurant is beachside with a wide variety of good food.

Breakfast was fine; a buffet, with enough food and enough variety. The restaurant was very pleasant, semi-outdoor setting by the swimming pool, in the garden. The hotel is very attractive, and located in Stone Town which I really liked. However, this meant that the last 100 metres to the hotel were on foot, which was a bit of a surprise on arrival. Luckily it was not raining at that time.
