First time in Portland risking a stay at MS Could not beat it, in Seattle the Seagulls woke me up The rooms at the Mark Spencer are quiet Right in the center of town walking distance to everything We are going back
I made a bad choice in not booking one or two more nights
Location was excellent. This is a grand old hotel that has been modernized superbly by someone with an artistic eye and big budget. My wife loved the place and we would definitely stay there again.
The wifi kept dropping the connection.
close to Powell's City of Books; Convenient location; afternoon cookies; many options for coffee machine
No elevator from street to main entrance; small breakfast room; price
An excellent hotel ideally situated in the middle of Portland with all the city centre attractions within easy reach either on foot or public transport. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our three days at the hotel. The inclusive breakfast was plentiful. Many restaurants and bars close by but the hotel was quiet.
Decor and overall feel of hotel enjoyable. Loved the location near Pearl District!
Midst of renovations.....kitchenette had worn cabinetry and broken door handle.
Clean hotel with very friendly and patient staff (should've heard how some guests spoke to them...)
Breakfast selection is poor: only bread/toast, muffins, yogurt and I think cereal.. Hot food would be nice.
Quiet, nice suites with kitchen, very good location and a great staff at reception.
Good location, good rooms, clean and large.
The location, reasonable price, helpful staff
A room looking in to a column of air. I appreciated it was quiet but rooms like that should be banned.
Breakfast area is quiet crowded, but worked out for us as we are early risers.
Location and comfort.
Located at the edge of The Pearl and downtown, the Mark Spencer is a prime accommodation for exploring all Portland has to offer. We were able to walk to Voodoo Doughnuts, Powell's Books, the waterfront, Pioneer Square, and food trucks. Public transportation was easily boarded a couple of blocks away to get to Washington Park----take the red Max Light line to the park and hike the Wildwood Trail---and other parts of the city. The staff at the Mark Spencer provided everything we asked for including directions and restaurant recommendations. They could not have been more gracious. The afternoon cookies were a nice treat after a day of sightseeing and the morning breakfasts got each day off to a "full stomach" start.
Our stay at the Mark Spencer was excellent. I can't think of anything negative worth mentioning.
Location and transport right outside.
The staff was wonderful, extremely friendly to everyone. Our junior suite was huge! The afternoon cookies were delicious and the evening wine tasting was very enjoyable. The cleaning staff was very thorough.
The shower water randomly switched between hot and cold. When we were told there was parking available in the underground garage, we were not told there was an extra charge for it, much less that it was $18 (now $20) per night.
Staff were friendly
Room wasn't ready on time. WiFi wasn't reliable in room
Great breakfast. Nice happy hour. Love the location.
the room was set up like a mini apartment and came with everything you would need to cook your own food. Close to downtown.
parking was kind of hard but manageable.
The Mark Spencer was a good value for the price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It has an excellent location located at the edge od the Pearl District. Our street level room was clean and well equipped for light housekeeping if we wished. We'll return. We chose to take our breakfasts at Cheryl's a block away that also provides breakfast room service to the hotel.
the location and we like older historic hotels; decent breakfast, nice help at the desk
Scary tight underground parking; TV selections were not good; lobby was not so grand; overall, could have been a little more luxurious for the cost.
Great location in the heart of the tenderloin. Very accommodating desk staff, very nice continental breakfast with healthy choices and an AWESOME fresh grind coffee machine.
No view from room if that is what you want.
We arrived just in time for the World Cup football match of Chile vs Spain and the lady in the reception made all the paperwork really fast so we could get to the room and watch the match on TV on time. :-)
Best Portland stay EVER! Even the weather was perfect.
The 3-room suite included a small but functional bathroom and bedroom, as well as a large (relatively speaking) living/dining/kitchen area. The living/dining room included a desk and a dining table with 2 chairs, and the kitchen included a full refrigerator, dishes and silverware, and a (very vintage) stove. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were supplied in dispensers on the wall, so there was no worry about running out. Towels and pillows were plentiful, the bed was comfortable, and there were televisions in both the living room and bedroom. The bedroom also included an alarm clock with an iPod dock. The in-lobby coffee machine was great. The breakfast was serviceable, and the wine tasting was a nice touch. The room was clean and the staff were fantastic. The building isn't new and modern, but it has a classic, vaguely European feel. The location is near the Pearl District, and importantly for me, only a block away from Powell'S. It's also close to Whole Foods, which is helpful if you want to get food to keep in the room.
The elevators were tiny; they were fine for me but could be a bit claustrophobic. There was a bit of weird smell, possibly related to construction. The windows in my room overlooked the courtyard area, so there wasn't a ton of light; consider asking for an exterior room of that matters to you. Still, all of these things were minor.
Upgraded to a suite at no extra charge. Hardboiled eggs a breakfast option. New York Times at the door. Great location. Helpful staff.
