Vela Luka is an ex-industrial town on Korčula island.
Vela Luka is an ex-industrial town on Korčula island. It is not as historic as the old town of Korčula (although there is an archaeological site from the Neolithic). It is more down to earth and does not try to be as upscale as the old town of Korčula which only strives for upscale tourists now. But Vela Luka is still close to super beaches and has shops and bars, that are much more pocket friendly than the old town of Korčula. Take a boat to nearby Proizd island or a taxi boat to the main beach. ... you will not be disappointed.CimoliniSlovenia - 10Scored 10

Wasn't as lively as some other places I've visited in Croatia/felt a little like it has fallen on hard times, but we still really loved the community atmosphere. Excelent starting point for exploring beautiful Island of Korčula. Beaches are out od town but easy to reach by boat (regular lines) or car. Town is quite authentic and not overcrowded by tourists, with lot od restaurants and bars.AleksandraCroatia - 10Scored 10

Its very different to Korcula town, it has great places to swim within walking distance of the town, has good value restaurants and accommodation, its not yet spoilt, lovely to mix with locals as seems to have more local holiday makers than overseas ones. Good cycling but not many places to refuel on hot days - so be warned, carry plenty of water with you! Don't expect pretty narrow streets and hustle and bustle - ( like in Hvar, Trogir and Korcula old town) but do expect a nice chilled time for a very reasonable price with welcoming locals.NashieUnited Kingdom - 4.0Scored 4.0

Better places in Croatia to go.The restaurants are very expensive ,compared to Korcula Town.Passed through some very nice villages on bus getting to Vela Luka All in all had a good holiday,but felt a little disappoint with the island.Did not have the feel of the Croatia ,that I like.

It is only 10 minutes cool trail walk to the water taxi, which will take you downtown to roam the shops, restaurants and bars. The owners are very nice and helpful, and it felt like they are family. They truly care for their guests and help you with everything, such a sweat couple! The rooms are very clean and modern. Air-conditioning worked perfectly, which is very important, it was hot and humid outside.

She showed us which places we should visit since this is our first time in Vela Luka. The accommodation is very close to the center, about 10 minutes on foot. The apartment contains everything you need and is very clean and tidy. We especially liked the interior and the large garden with a barbecue. A lot of space for the kids to play around the house, safe pool with nice area around it, apartments have separate entrances and terraces so even when all apts. are occupied you can enjoy your holidays in privacy. Only 10min on foot to cetral Vela Luka with shops, beautiful port, ferries, festivals ect. Shaded parking, easy access to main road. The landlady welcomed us with this grandson who helped with the translation, really kind family, gave us a plate of homemade cookies as farewell, highly recommended to everyone for a great experience on this beautiful island. The location is perfect, one corner away from the main road of Vela Luka on the coastline. All shops and restaurants are right at your doorstep. The accommodation is exactly as shown on the pictures.

In a nice small steet very calm and close to every thing you need. There is also a nice and calm terrace for the rooms with shadow, tables and chairs, so for chilling it was very nice. We loved a very large shaded terrace where we ate all our meals and spent time before bed playing cards. The place is about 20 minutes away from the pretty Vela Luka and very calm and silent, which is what we really like on a holiday. The owners are also very kind.

They even arranged a ride because the bus wasn't running due to it being a holiday. The in-hotel restaurant was excellent. The location is right on the main boulevard that runs along the waterfront.
