Stunning Split stands proudly on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, and due to its great climate is called the Mediterranean Flower. It features eclectic architecture, spectacular views and delicious cuisine.
Split is centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, a magnificent building constructed at the beginning of the 4th century AD and boasting limestone and marble towers, columns and courtyards. It lies in a bay decorated with white sails of yachts, as sailing is definitely Split’s big thing!
The city is full of architectural gems, one of which is St. Duje’s Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the world, built in 305 AD and combining both Roman and Catholic influences. Nearby Varoš is a must-see, one of the city’s oldest parts, full of charming streets and beautiful houses.
Make sure you visit the Bačvice Beach and the Riva promenade, popular with locals and full of cafés and palm trees. While on the hunt for local specialities, try soparnik - wood-fired dough filled with vegetables - or local soda drinks Pipi and Orela.
So just pack your bags and head to Split Airport! Booking.com has plenty of sunny apartments, friendly guest houses and well-appointed hotels for your Split adventure.

Split is a really interesting city to visit for at least 2 nights. The city was created when a Roman emperor built a palace here for his retirement in about 700 AD. During the middle ages, people moved inside the palace and built their homes within the palace to have the protection of the walls. So the old town is a fascinating hodge podge of Roman arches and columns with stone homes. Cars cannot enter the palace.
My recommendation is to stay just outside the old town in a hotel that is accessible by taxi and then you can walk to the old town. It is cheaper and you will have more space and most likely access to an elevator.
It's easy to walk everywhere. I enjoyed a walking tour of the old city. There were also various museums and you could walk up to a lookout point over the city. Several beaches are nearby.

Split is a great place to begin a tour of Croatia.
Split is a great place to begin a tour of Croatia. Easy to walk around and with plenty of interesting sights, history. We visited Trogir Island too (1 hour by ferry) although it is noisy at night! September (2nd half) is a good time to visit as it is still warm but not boiling hot. Plenty of places to eat in Split, also luggage storage. It is good for 2/3 days sightseeing, especially if you want to visit one of the islands on a day trip. We went North from here but there are buses going South to Dubrovnik and other towns too.

Park Marjon and the old town are obviously the highlights.
Park Marjon and the old town are obviously the highlights. Perhaps because we had previously visited Montengro (Perast, Kotor and Budvar), Dubrovnik, Korcula, Hvar and finally Split over the past 13/13 days, we found Split less appealing

The Old Town was beautiful with what appeared to be a French influence within the architecture. Plenty of unique little shops and small alleys to explore. There are several trips available to visit island and National Parks. We visited the islands of Trigir and Solta absolutely beautiful and tranquil and the water falls at Krka National Park were amazing. Restaurants and pubs were nice and reasonably priced which catered for a variety of people. If you have a car you could also drive to islands if you didn't want to book trips. Roads within the town area were busy but once out of town motorways were good. Well worth a short break.

I liked Split a lot.
I liked Split a lot. Diocletian's palace is fascinating and there are a lot of things to do. My only complaint is that it's very touristy these days and the prices have gone up quite a lot from the old days. .

Good place to visit for the Old Town, strolling along the harbour and exploring the Marjan hill/ park with its lovely walkways and beaches.
Also well placed to do excursions. We did Bol ( Zlatni rat beach) and Omis on the bus. Could have booked many more island trips but saved that for the rest of our holiday in Dubrovnik.
We stayed here twice. A few days at the beginning of our trip to Croatia and a couple of days at the end.
Communication with Nevena was spot on and Jago's help with our cases up and down from the 4th floor was an absolute godsend.
Shower was one of the best we had.
Balcony was quite small and the local pigeons seemed to love it so didn't sit out on it.
Bastion is in a great spot for exploring (and getting lost)in the little streets of the old town.
Also not too far from the port and the bus station for exploring further afield
Location was perfect. It is so close to the bus terminus. There's a short cut across the tracks which takes only 5 mins. It is walking distance to the old Town n the only sandy beach in Split. The room was clean n comfortable room. It was a lovely gesture by the host to leave water bottles for us in the room for the first day. Also, when we checked out, the host helped us with our luggage. He was so easily contactable. There was also a kettle n 2 cups in the room. Most hotels I stayed in Croatia didn't have.
It has everything we needed in the room, and nice Seaview. About 7 mins walk to the old town , lots of restaurants, bars and shops. There's a supermarket down the road and a bakery off the other side of the road about 2 mins walk. The only downside is that the noise from the wind and rain gets really loud in the morning, and this kind of weather is really rare in May in Croatia
A very good and spacious apartment, everything is available for a family with children to live for a long time. Easy access to the old town, the sea and the bus to the airport, shops nearby. The host told everything and suggested which are the most beautiful places to visit in Croatia.
I will definitely recommend this accommodation to others, only the best reviews.
Fantastic Apartment
We have travelled fro 7 weeks through UK, France, Spain, Italy, Montenegro and Croatia. This was b for the best Stay! Our host was so helpful and went out of his way to give of his time and energy to be sure we would see all the sights of the palace in the Old Town. Highly recommend staying here.
