Spending Christmas at the Aurora Hut of Inuk Hostel was nothing short of extraordinary. I couldn’t have chosen a more special place to celebrate the holiday season. Despite the biting cold of Greenland, the Aurora Hut was incredibly warm and cozy, offering every modern convenience—WiFi, Bluetooth, power sockets, and a compact but functional toilet. The design is both practical and inviting, making it a perfect retreat. The owner, Gerth, made my stay even more memorable by personally showing me to my room. The warm welcome and thoughtful touches, like the Christmas decoration, added an extra layer of charm and friendliness to the experience. Despite it being Christmas, Gerth arranged for me to have breakfast every day, which just proves his exceptional hospitality. The Filipino crew at the reception were equally delightful—friendly, helpful, and always smiling. The highlight of my stay was witnessing the aurora borealis not once, but twice, from the comfort of my very own room. The transparent ceiling allowed me to marvel at this natural wonder without even stepping outside. It was pure magic, and truly one of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve ever had in a hotel. If you’re looking for a unique, cozy, and truly special place to stay in Greenland, the Inuk Hostel Aurora Hut is an absolute must. I will treasure this magical Christmas forever.

A very exotic and interesting destination, a combination of the far north, Inuit culture and Danish influence. Cafe Esmeralda with an affordable and delicious breakfast/brunch, a good Thai restaurant Charoen Porn right next door, a brewery and Daddys Pub were our favorite places.
Nuuk was much like expected but with some spectauclar views over the mountains and fjords. The local nightlife was limited but very well attended and good fun to be with. With both food and souvenir shops anlong with cafe's close-by, I really enjoyed my visit, especially the boat ride up the fjord and getting close to icebergs!
Nuuk grew on me over the 4 days that I spent there. I either walked around the city or took public buses. I thoroughly enjoyed the board walk, wandering around old Nuuk, the walk to and around Circus lake, the environs of the University of Greenland, and always beginning and ending the day around the Centre of Nuuk. It was a pleasure getting to know the city through its inhabitants, all of whom, were always forthcoming with advice and suggestions.
The people of Nuuk are very friendly and welcoming. It is important to note that when you visit Nuuk, having an open mind and open heart is important - locals appreciate efforts to learn and use the local Kalaallisut language. Even a simple "Qujanaq" goes a long way! Nuuk itself is often seen as a gateway to going on excursions to see ice fjords, glaciers, and the surrounding natural beauty of Greenland, but the city itself is also rich in history and culture and spending at least a day or two inside the city to learn about the Greenlandic people and their culture is a must. For those who are physically active, getting around the city by walking is the best way to explore; however, the city also has an excellent bus system and taxis that are readily available for getting around with ease. Worth noting is that in addition to the typical tourist attractions, such as the National Museum, boat tours into the fjord, and dining experiences, the city of Nuuk also has an Art Museum and a workshop called Kittat where Inuit women work on traditional embroidery that is used by local community. Visiting Nuuk is not easy or cheap, but coming here and getting to know this part of Greenland and the people who live here is well worth the journey!
First, you need to do some research about Nuuk so you know what to expect. Overall, we enjoyed our trip quite a lot. It’s long travel from California to NEw York than to Nuuk. Once landed, we took taxi to hotel, had simple dinner near by. Then explored Nuuk downtown and had good lunch and dinner. We took few tours and all are good and overall what we expected.
I would think twice about going back too Nuuk becasue of the issues they have with their airport. It was closed to all international flights becasue of the Danish aviation department not being satisfied with teir seciroty screening. My flight was just canceled and had no idesa when the airport was gfoing to open again to International flights. I would give them a few years to get things sorted out before I ever went back. Such a shame because its absolutley beautiful and the people are so friendly.
