This 1920s-style hotel welcomes you with live piano music in the lobby. Set in 7 acres of gardens, it is next to the Triton Fountain in Valletta's City Gate Square. If beauty is a panacea for all ills, then The Phoenicia should be available on prescription!

Rubin's is again a small family run restaurant where the unobtrusive entrance could be easily missed. The menu which as on a chalk board behind us was read to us by the waiter with a description on how each dish was prepared and cooked. My wife who is a vegetarian informed the waiter who then make various suggestions and recommendations and his selections were excellent. You could tell he had a passion for good food. An amuse bouche with a few added extras was served while the main dishes were being prepared. There was also an excellent choice of Maltese wines available. My wife and I had a wonderful evening. Highly recommended If you have spare twenty minutes in Valletta why not visit the small, free entrance, church of St. Paul's shipwreck. It is one of the oldest churches on the island and we didn't get to see the two relics it holds but it is a beautiful church and well worth the visit. The previous entry describing it as a Tardis experience is very accurate, small from the outside, but large when you enter. Upper Barrakka gardens is a small and pleasant area to stroll round with a great view of the bay. Try to arrange your visit for 11:45 and experience the firing of the midday salute. We enjoyed our visit
Valletta is charming as most people you come across will tell you, who have been. But Getting to Valletta by bus or taxi is certainly an interesting ride.. I found that the Maltese people very pleasant indeed. Take a water bus over to the three cities as well and just wandering through the streets is delightful and if you really want to feel what the Maltese people went through during the war, go to the Malta at war Museum and get a personal tour at no extra cost, simply a humbling experience. If you want a fine example of a grand old stately home, Casa Rocca Piccola is great. The Archaeological Museum has a fine collection and is fascinating, but pays to see it after visiting some of the ancient sites to get more of a deeper understanding of its contents and origins. Overall for Valletta and Malta as a whole, you need a few weeks to see all the amazing places and historic and ancient monuments spread throughout on this relatively small island, Gozo and Comino. I am amazed how friendly and genuine the Maltese People have remained with such a history as theirs!
The city is stunning. When you see pics of Valletta you imagine that they are carefully selected views of a few great buildings. No. All the buildings in Valletta look like that. Eating out is cheap and of a high standard from my experience, there are plenty of Maltese dishes to try specific also to the time of year. Be prepared to be walking up or down steep steps although there are plenty of taxis. It is worth doing a lot of walking around as there are hidden gems of cafes everywhere and it is so picturesque. I have been in March and December. For me, I wouldn't visit in August as I am not fond of heat but if you are it would be ideal, it is very easy and very cheap to get around to the seaside. The buses to St Julian's and other places from there are 75 cent. Maltese people are incredibly friendly and welcoming.
Valletta is steeped in amazing history, with fabulous architecture and incredible views. There is something for everyone, from embracing the historical events that have forged this city and the whole of the Maltese Islands, to gazing in awe at Caravaggio in St. John's Co Cathedral, to enjoying the very relaxed; and very delicious food and wine of Malta along with a boat trip around the fabulous harbours and coastline. The people of Malta are fabulously welcoming and truly delightful with a pride of their homeland that allows you to feel at home and completely relaxed from the moment you arrive. Valletta is one of the most fabulous places to visit and being quite a small city everything is within very easy access.
An amazingly beautiful city, which glows with the honey-coloured stone from which it is built. It is steeped in history, from the days of the Knights and the Great Siege to the depredations of the Second World War. It is easy to explore on foot, providing you don't mind the odd hill or flight of steps and the excellent public bus service provides easy and incredibly cheap access to all the main attractions on the island. Don't miss crossing the harbours by ferry boat, the Archaeological Museum or the War Museum or the chance to visit ancient temples and the former capital of Mdina. For amazing food in a bistro setting try Rubino and Trabuxu .
St. Anton Garden right next to the hotel is probably the most beautiful garden I ever visited. It is magical, full of beautiful plants and trees and gorgeous cats that are looked after by the local pet lovers. When being there at the right time (before the tourist busses arrive) it is a serene and life affirming environment.
