The house is top-notch inside. Super clean, tidy, and cozy. Close to Valletta and the airport. There's a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, two toilets, and a living room. Hot water and heating are available. The owner picked us up from the airport and was really nice. Highly recommended!

I liked absolutely everything, the penthouse is very comfortable and spacious and cosy, there is everything you need for relaxation. The owner of the apartment gave all the necessary instructions on how to get into the apartment and was always in touch. I recommend this apartment 💯

A very cosy, modern apartment for two people, with an exceptional outdoor terrace — perfect for spring and summer. I loved the contrast of the small apartment and the huge terrace (a pity it was winter during my stay!). Everything I needed was provided, and the place felt comfortable and welcoming. A €100 deposit is requested, but it was refunded without any problems once the property was checked after my stay.

Malta International Airport (MLA) Information

Location and Transport

Malta International Airport sits between the villages of Luqa and Gudja, around 6 miles (10 kilometres) from Valletta, Malta’s capital. A 20-minute taxi ride is the easiest way to get between the airport and the city, with a fare of around EUR 17 to Valletta. Another option is to take the X4 bus to Valletta, which can be accessed right outside the Arrivals area. The bus runs from around 06:00 until 11:00 and passes through the airport every 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the time of day.

The closest hotels can be found just over a mile (around 2 kilometres) from the airport, and some provide a shuttle service on request. The airport features a fitness lounge, observation deck and an amusement room with a pool table and air hockey. Luqa is a quaint, tranquil village very near the airport. There are regular bus services to Valetta, so it is easy to get around. I enjoyed the low volume of traffic and there were enough stores and street vendors to buy everything I needed.

There's a Lidl, the neighborhood has interesting...

There's a Lidl, the neighborhood has interesting architecture. I was there in December off season for a night and it was pretty empty and there were no shady people. Walked to the airport at 4 AM or so, completely empty streets.

Gudja is a quiet village even though it is close to the airport. There are some historic buildings in the area but no big shops or restaurants. It is not on the 'tourist trail' so there is not really any amenities for tourists in Gudja.

Central location with good bus service to airport and other areas. The area itself is quite residential but an easy bus ride away from Valletta, Birgu and other areas where attractions are. Quieter at night time but still has food options to buy yourself or to eat out. The church is astonishing.

We didn't get to see as much of the town as we wanted, since...

We didn't get to see as much of the town as we wanted, since we only stayed 2 days and bused into Valletta and Mdina both days. But in Hal Saflieni we visited a pastry shop with absolutely delicious food, and a grocery store where an employee immediately struck up a conversation with us in Italian and was super friendly. I would have loved to explore longer!

Tarxien is a small town in the south of Malta. It is known mainly for history and being a quiet residential area. Relaxed & quiet atmosphere Tarxien is mainly a traditional Maltese residential town, not a tourist nightlife area. It has low crime and a generally safe environment. Streets are small, with local shops, churches, and quiet neighborhoods

Qormi seems like a traditional Maltese city/neighborhood, with mostly traditional houses, with narrow streets that have tight or no sidewalks. It is quiet and nice to have walks. You will find many small old churches.

Zurrieq is a quiet, traditional village.

Zurrieq is a quiet, traditional village. It has all the basics, e.g. supermarket, green grocers, butchers, pharmacy, 24/7 corner store and even an electrical appliances store which came in handy when I forgot my phone charger. It has a few take aways for pizza, burgers, etc, Kaian is excellent, and one restaurant which we did not try because there was a problem with the kitchen when we were there. It's a great base for exploring Malta as long as you enjoy peace and quiet. Hardly any tourists know it exists, but on the other hand you won't find bars, shops and excitement here. Parking is on street and you can find a space if you drive around 2-3 roads. Be careful as some of the streets are very very narrow and Google maps/Waze may send you that way - sticking to the main roads is faster and safer. I suspect the exception is the week of the village fiesta, which we didn't experience, but from talking to the locals, is a huge event.

Walking around Għaxaq I felt like I'd gone back in time. Discovering the little courtyards and the restaurants of the area I got that wonderful sense that I treasure when I travel -- the sense of adopting a different life for a short time -- an expansion of possibilities. Delightful!
