About Hallstatt

Nestled in the heart of Austria, Hallstatt is a picturesque village that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and rich history. The climate here is temperate, with warm summers averaging around 70°F and chilly winters that can dip below 32°F.

Hallstatt is renowned for its stunning landscapes, which you can explore by foot or by taking a leisurely boat ride on the serene Hallstatt Lake. The village's iconic landmark, the 12th-century Hallstatt Church, is a must-visit. For a glimpse into the past, the ancient salt mines, accessible by funicular, offer an intriguing journey.

Immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting the Hallstatt Museum, where you can learn about the region's 7,000-year-old salt mining history. Austrian cuisine is a delight to the senses, and in Hallstatt, you can savor traditional dishes like Tafelspitz (boiled beef in broth) and Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake). The surrounding Dachstein Salzkammergut region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering breathtaking views of alpine landscapes and pristine lakes.

Loved the amazing views around Hallstatt.

Loved the amazing views around Hallstatt. The salt mine tour is definitely worth it. The views from above are just spectacular overlooking the mountains, town and the lake. Just strolling through the streets everything was so quaint and beautiful. A visit to the church and bone haus is a must its amazing to learn the history.

A beautiful enchanting fairy tale town.

A beautiful enchanting fairy tale town. Set on a lake framed by mountains. It is very small easily done in a day or 2. The food is delicious and reasonably priced Salt mines worth doing 100% but give yourself a few hours as so much to see at the top! Only down side shops and cafes open late … 10-10.30 am and close around 6.30-7 in the winter we got caught out with nowhere to eat or nothing to do in the evenings

A perfect place to visit with family.

A perfect place to visit with family. Beautiful lake, landscapes views, snowy mountains and salt mine tour. Hallstatt is really small and can be walked around comfortably. Connectivity with Salzburg is easy by bug #150, 542 and 543 in around 2.5 hours. Tip : Hallstatt old town is costly, relatively cheaper accommodation can be availed in nearby places like Obertraun.

Hallstatt is completely overrun by daytime tourists who just want the quintessential photo of the town. I could have had the same mountain lake experience by staying in a nearby town (and then not having to leave my car in P1 parking then being shuttled to the town).

    WAY too many tourists!

WAY too many tourists! Hard to walk around and also find a spot to eat! One night is plenty! Gorgeous town though and easy to get around. A lot of day trippers that once their buses left, the crowds cleared out tremendously.

    Hallstatt is beautiful.

Hallstatt is beautiful. The Salt mine tours were definitely worth the effort but be advised there is a little hike up to it. Drive to the other side of the lake as beautiful and not as many tourists... we ate in a little restaurant facing Hallstatt...extraordinary food and we were the only tourists

The hotel is magical, it is located in the center, as we told the owner Tom, the hotel feels like the soul of Hallstatt. Beautiful decoration, great breakfast and a very comfortable and beautiful room. We didn’t know we needed to have a certain type of mask in order to be able to access the facilities in Hallstatt so Tom told us there was no problem and gave his own masks so we wouldn’t have any problems entering the attractions and facilities. I recommend it to everyone and I will definitely be back!

We loved staying at this hotel. It has the perfect location. It is very stylish, yet gives a rustic feeling. The room was large and the view divine! Lunch at the restaurant was excellent. Our waiter, Daniel, offered wine advice and his attention was professional and appreciated. The front desk staff were very informative and friendly. Breakfast was also exceptional. If you have the good fortune to be able to reserve a room at this hotel, it is the very best place to stay in Hallstatt.

The location is great! The pension is newly renovated, all furniture is completely new, and very clean! We asked for room with lake view, and we got the best room on the lake view side with big balcony! The pension is very close both to the tourist attractions and to the city center! Staff is super nice and taking care of covid-19 restrictions. Buffet breakfast is good enough for the money. The best accommodation we ever had through

The beds are some of the most comfortable I've had the pleasure of sleeping in. Self check-in after regular operating hours was simple. The owner is friendly and accommodating. The coffee is great, and the cold cuts and cheeses supplied for breakfast are of high quality. The hotel itself is located within a five minute walk to the funicular up to the Hallstatt SaltzweIten and close to the Obertraun ferry service.

From Tom the host to the wonderfully charming room to Hallstatt itself (during its one and only day of Christmas Market) this was a PERFECT way to end our 15 day Christmas Market tour in Bavaria and northern Austria! The location -- right in the market square - was PERFECT for enjoying the festivities. At the same time, our room was extremely quiet. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Nestled amidst the majestic Austrian Alps, Hallstatt and Polreich captivate hearts! An amazing place, located in a prime location, centrally, but yet away from the noise and tourists fuss. Room was spacious, clean, very thoughtfully decorated with stunning view! The staff went above and beyond to meet our expectations! We will definitely return! Thank you team Polreich! ❤️

The view, the balcony, the bathroom, the authentic-ness of the building. The noise is not bad like other guests mentioned, I think mostly because there's nothing to do at night in Hallstatt so no one would arrive late at the hotel. I am a very light sleeper and only woke up once to use the WC, never due to noise. Nice breakfast and helpful host.

The property face to the lake. I feel really great to relax right beside the lake. The location is far from the center but you can walk. The owner of this hotel was really kind. She is really pleased to explain more thing not even than hotel but the hallstatt. The private parking is really convenient and it is difference from many hotel here.

Seewirt Zauner was the perfect hotel to stay in Hallstatt. the remodel combines modern luxury with traditional Alpine accents. the staff was so kind. The best sleep I had during my stay in Austria. The beds were extremely comfortable, and to be lulled to sleep with the sounds of water rushing by was perfect.

It’s well-known Hallstatt is an expensive town. Yet, compared to other apartments or hotels in the area, Apartment Sophia is still the most practical to stay in. I think it’s an old house before, but it is clean and lovely furnished.
