Parkes is a beautiful town that has everything you might need for a stop-over or extended stay. Loved its charm and beauty. Would not necessarily rate 'the Dish' as spectacular - the dish itself was pretty amazing but the facilities and 'experiences' around it were not that great. One of the strangest things was the number of 'Beware of Snakes' signs. Just how does one become aware of snakes? The number one rule of keeping snakes away is to keep the grass down and the shrubbery around the premises small and cleared. So why would you put masses of shrubs, trees, plants and bushes all around the paths and the entry?
Just be aware that it is a country town - so things close early...eg the bank closed at 2pm and not 4 pm Paragon coffee shop was a great place to have lunch - good price and food Great little shops to wander through on the Main Street the Information Centre - was very helpful The Dish coffee shop was not open on the Monday which was disappointing - as it is such a great place to sit and soak up history
Definitely worth the visit, a lot to see and do even when the Elvis Festival is not on. If you are there for the festival, the town really gets into the spirit of things. Great breakfast at Bella's and the Roasted Kombi.
It is a delightful town. We don't often get to remoter locations. We visited the Bushmen's Reserve, the War memorial on the hill with some great views, and of course the Dish. We can recommend them all of these, the first especially for the historic significance and the Wiradjuri heritage. We came to Parkes initially to see the Dish only to realise there is a lot more to discover.
The Dish is absolutely amazing and the reason for our visit, we had never been to Parkes.. Museum's are great and the Packed Cone gelato place is heaven on earth, We also did the old gold mine thing nearby but once you have done those things, there's not a whole lot left to do.Good for a weekend visit but there wouldn't be much else to do for longer.. Absolutely beautiful town, we took the kids to the aquatic Centre for half a day to pass time, it was lovely
Parks was a really nice country town. Everyone was friendly. A visit to the 'Dish' is a must. Staff at the Dish were so friendly and helpful. Food at cafe as first class. Parkes olympic pool is great to cool off in. A visit to the town information center is recommended too. It has a fun old town heritage museum, Elvis Museum and Car Museum. Learn about Henry Parkes founder of federation in Australia. Town center has everything thing you need. Stay a couple of nights is worth it.
Parkes
The cabin was a good size and well presented. The kitchnette had all the utensils needed for basic cooking which saved me having to buy meals on the road. The cabin also has its own toilet which was a bonus and saved trips to the common facility. The shower block was plain and basic but did the job. I would stay again if I needed budget accomodtion in the Parkes area.
Parkes
10mins walk from Parkes station. 2 mins from main street shops, cafes, hotels, churches, Big W store. Beware! Cafes close at 2pm Sat, so at 2.15, I missed out on a good coffee after travelling since 6am, Great restaurant Bent's, onsite. Another great Italian cafe, for lunches, just around the corner.
Parkes
Location was perfect being centrally located. Parking was ample and off street. Room was neat & clean and well priced for the type of room. And being part of a pub was a real bonus. All in all I was very pleased with my stay.
