Great Southern Hotel is located in a historic 19th-century building in the heart of Sydney CBD (Central Business District), just 5 minutes’ walk from Central Station.
Great Southern is in a perfect Sydney location and has the best breakfast deal I could find in 2 different stays in Sydney in 2023 (January and March). The breakfast is not really a buffet, but for 12 Australian dollars (January) or 14 AUD (March), you get 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links (yes they will substitute bacon for sausage and vice versa) and all the tea, coffee, juice, and milk you want, plus all the toast with jam, butter and honey that you want. I loved the quiet room, the very good WiFi signal, the in-room fridge, the firm but not hard bed, the cleanliness, the city view from my window, the quick elevator/lift, the friendly staff, the good shower water pressure, and that awesome location by the Central Train station.

From the glitz and glamour of the Star City Casino and trendy King Street Wharf in Darling Harbor to the waves of the Northern beaches, Sydney is full of great restaurants, bars and shopping.
Sail under the iconic Harbor Bridge on a ferry and take in a world class performance at the Sydney Opera House. Circular Quay is also home to the exquisite waterside Botanical Gardens and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The Sydney Tower is the highest point on the skyline and offers a restaurant with panoramic views.
Whether it's the quirky King Street in Newtown or the elegance of the Woollahra, travelling outside of the center uncovers each suburb's distinct flavor. The famous Bondi Beach is the starting point of a walk along the cliffs to the equally photogenic beaches of Bronte and Coogee.
Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport is the main gateway to this capital city and only a short distance from the city center. From a dorm bed in King’s Cross to a 5-star, serviced apartment in the central business district, Booking.com will ensure you don’t miss the excitement in this dynamic city down under.
Sydney is an exciting g place to visit, so much to see and do. Obviously very busy and full of visitors but it’s not difficult to find places that are quieter, away from the crowds. Trips on the ferries are a cheap and easy way to get around and see the city from a different perspective.
So much to see and do in Sydney and not enough time. Beautiful gardens, great beaches, great restaurants, lots of sightseeing and friendly people. We managed to eat at quite a few great restaurants, walked around Bondi beach, traveled to Manly beach by ferry, climbed the harbour bridge, went to the Rocks market, walked around Hyde park, went to a cat cafe and did some shopping in the five days we were there.
As far as cities go, it was not as busy as we expected it to be. Circular Quay, The Rocks and Darling Harbour did not disappoint. What was outstanding was the public transport. Never waited longer than a couple of minutes and it was so clean. Best way to get around for sure!
We stayed in the suburb Barangaroo which I found to be very central to all the tourist attractions we had planned. It's also within walking distance to almost everything, including the Lyric theatre if you are heading to Sydney to watch a show. The hotel was also only 1 block away from the waterfront where there are a heap of dining options. We booked a 3 entry ticket which got us into Madame Tussauds, Sealife and the rooftop Zoo next door - this was a good deal. We had a blast at Madame Tussauds and the Aquarium. The zoo was different to any I've exprienced because the animals are so close to you. They only take maybe 45 minutes to an hour each to go through. I highly recommend the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb if you have time. The views are amazing and the guides give you interesting facts about Sydneys history as well as the history of the bridge. Taronga Zoo is also a must - seeing an array of animals with the ocean and city backdrop is a Sydney must do.
We stayed at Darling Harbour,Pyrmont, easy to get to everything Light Rail,Ferry,Walking distance to Fish Market,Casino,Coles, across the bridge to Central City walking distance to everything or use the light rail,,malls everywhere,,lots of people,,get out early to avoid the thousands, visted Manly on the fast Ferry well worth the visit.
Sydney is a great place to visit. There are a lot of attractions just in the CBD (central business district) alone. It is a 'walkable' city with a lot of footpaths and extensive public transport options. The views especially along the coast/quay are splendid. There are also a lot of eateries scattered around town, some more famous and easier to get to than others. Also a lot of places for shopping. There are a lot of other attractions outside of CBD, of course. Most of these are accessible via public transport, which is very reliable. But because Sydney is big, some journey may take a long time, and will need prior planning.
LOCATION. The Rydges Sydney Harbour is located in a heritage like area so do not expect it to be all glass and shiny. Its quite rustic and gives chill vibes away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney CBD which is a fifteen minute walk. You can see the harbour bridge outside your window if you get a good view, it’s a 2-3 minute walk to a cafe/restaurant and luxury brand shopping (Sydney galleria DFS) and 5 minute walk to the circular quay station. Take train from international airport to circular quay ($18.31-$19). 100% would stay again.
Sydney Central Business District, Sydney
The location of this hotel is just perfect ! Very Well connected by trams , (just outside the the hotel ) close to wynyard station, ferry area at circular quay, Sydney CBD area , Woolworths Metro is across the street . We booked a 2 bedroom apartment - comfortable for our family of 2 adults and 2 teen kids. The bedrooms were separate from the kitchen and lounge . Apartment was well equipped with all the basic amenities . The hotel front office staff was helpful , friendly and available on call.
Love the location, the cleanliness and comfort of the beds. Gym facilities can be better, but understandably scaled back due to the health concerns. Breakfast is good, too. Kudos to the staff at the restaurant. Great customer service from the porter & housekeeping, to the front office. The bar within the hotel means you can enjoy a drink with friends (or a quiet one by yourself) without having to leave the hotel, and just go up to your room after. My go-to place when staying in Sydney CBD.
Sydney Central Business District, Sydney
Great location above regent arcade with a lot of great food choices. Within walking distance to most of the Sydney CBD Great expansive view on the higher levels over looking Town Hall and you can even see as far as North and South heads, the entry point to Sydney Harbour. If you're into photography or time lapses parking a camera or phone near the windows would wield excellent results. Staff were very friendly. Rooms were clean. Pool and gym rooms were pretty good.
Front of office staff couldn't do enough to help me. Of particular note was the lady who checked me out on the Sunday. She was extremely pleasant, remembered my name, looked after my bags whilst we attended a seminar after checking out, arranged airport taxis, remembered my name again and made the effort to say goodbye with a warm genuine smile! I said to my son at the time how lovely and helpful she was and we both agreed it makes you want to come back again.
Loved this boutique hotel and will definitely stay there next time I'm in Sydney. I normally stay at luxury hotels in the CBD for work but I enjoyed this stay far more. The room was clean and really comfortable. It was super quiet at night time even tho the hotel its on Oxford St and the staff are really friendly. They have an area downstairs where you can make a coffee and help yourself to a yummy pastry or two in the morning. Thank you Mrs Banks Hotel :)
Beautiful room, great layout, very spacious and lovely decor. Very comfortable stay. Excellent value for money considering surrounding hotels with similar pricing at almost half the size with limited facilities. Being able to order room service easily from the iPad from surrounding Merivale venues was fantastic. Welcoming staff and very quick and efficient checkout. One of the better hotels in Sydney CBD, will definitely be back.
What an incredible hotel! Everything was flawless - from the room and abundance of towels to the warm greeting, impeccable service, and exquisite decor. Having stayed in hotels globally, I must say this experience was truly outstanding, especially considering the great value and convenient location. The availability of a shuttle bus to the airport was the cherry on top!
Stayed there years ago when it was the Westin, it was one of our favourite places we had stayed. New ownership after Covid, good to see they haven’t changed anything. The clock tower and old post office building is one of the most beautiful backdrops for a hotel in the middle of CBD. 10/10 for everything.
The hotel has thick carpeted hallways and sensor lights which is ideal in an airport hotel. I didn't get woken up by the sound of suitcases or get bothered by light coming in under the door. Nice decor. Much nicer than other airport hotels close by, would stay here again.
the best hotel in CBD, close to everywhere, like Chinatown and Darling harbour. The staff also amazing, thank you to Bidya (hope it’s not wrong spelling) and Felix, they provide nice customer service and recommend beautiful restaurants in Chinatown.
The hotel is very well-situated near the Sydney domestic terminal, making it an excellent choice when departing early from this airport. The hotel itself was clean, quiet, and modern. The staff were helpful and friendly.
COMFORTABLE AND SPACIOUS ROOM. THE HOTEL IS VERY WELL LOCATED IN THE CENTRE OF THE CBD, HANDY TO THE ROCKS AREA, DARLING HARBOUR AND SHOPPING. ALSO WALKING DISTANCE TO MANY PLACES OF INTEREST, GALLERY, MUSEUM, ETC
Location was excellent, within walking distance of Darling Harbour, Circular Quay, CBD attractions and Trains. Hotel facilities were first class and beds were very comfortable.
We stayed here for an event at Olympic Park. Hotels very neat, all needs met, comfy bed and clean bathroom. Good location to local shops and transport. Lovely host.
The proximity to the offices - hotels and airport terminals. The attentive staff! The clean rooms. Well attended by the housekeeping staff on level 6.
The convenience of the big shopping mall next door, my wife loved it, the hotels carpark and easy access driving to the CBD and back.
I love how it’s close to my office and CBD! I also love that you don’t have to ask for a cleaning service, they’ll do it everyday!
Proximity to airport for early flight was incredible. Value for money for a hotel in Sydney also pleasantly surprised me
Good overnight near the airport. Definitely an airport hotel for night before flight or when coming into Sydney.
