Take time to figure out how to use the transportation card - some news and cafe stores sell them and then you load the cards by paying using your credit card and can use the card for ferries and trains. Loading the card with more credit card payments is tricky - May need to go to a store and have them load the card for you.
Great place to spend a day or two; plenty to see and do (cafe's, restaurants, tours, etc.) and a good place to make a base for a Sydney trip. Nice to come back at the end of a busy day and take in the scenery of the sun setting over the city from the quay.
If you plan on going to Watsons Bay by ferry, plan your return trip so as you leave on last Public Transport ferry at 4:25. Otherwise get a bus to Bondi Junction or Edgecliffe and catch a train back. There are no warnings about this posted on the timetable. All ferries past 4:25 are privately operated and therefore more expensive.
Love it, hive of activity, ferries, people coming and going, street buskers, cruise ships docking at Circular Quay, eateries, gift shops, train station, bus depots, walking distance to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, catch a ferry to Luna Park, the Taronga Park Zoo, Manly Beach. Wander to George Street shops, pubs, gift stores, cafes and restaurants.
Full of shops and buskers and CROWDS. Buskers worth a look but main reason for being on circular quay is to catch a ferry or book a sightseeing tour. The Captain Cook tour the includes Fort Denison, Watson’s Bay and Tooranga zoo worth the price since get a good view of the harbour along the way including the expensive properties long it.
A MUST WHEN IN SYDNEY! hope in town on a sunday, head to the rocks markets, the MCA art gallery, check out the opera house and harbour bridge all at the same time. if you love shopping there is everything you need from LV to Gucci.
Location is great down in "The Rocks" area of Sydney with Sydney's oldest pub (Fortune of War) right downstairs. Perfect for access to cruise ship terminal and short walk to/from Circular Quay trains and ferries. Had a room with ensuite that ticked all the boxes, simple style continental breakfast included. The hotel corridors fit the Quirky category with ups and downs and lots of turns, but you have to laugh when you get lost and end up downstairs in the pub by mistake!
The proximity of the hotel to the train station, it's less than 2 minutes walk. It's very well placed - only 4 stops from the International Airport, and 4 stops from Circular Quay - central Sydney. Just opposite the train station, there's also a Woolworths to buy breakfast from, and quite a nice restaurant called The Butcher and Farmer which is good for tasty meals if you can't be bothered to travel into Central Sydney.
This hotel was in the perfect location for exploring Sydney. Walking distance to the Circular Quay, the Rocks, Opera House,Botanical Garden, Hyde Park, and shopping. Delightful room to come back to: roomy, comfortable bed, great views of the harbor. Helpful, pleasant staff. Three Bottle Man was a great spot for a light breakfast, if you aren’t interested in the big buffet in the main restaurant. I would stay there again.
Excellent location in the heart of The Rocks, a short walk from Circular Quay ferries, trains, trams and buses. Hotel facilities limited at this time due to COVID-19 infection concerns so no bar nor buffet breakfast. A la Carte breakfast available but quite expensive relative to those you can get at several excellent cafes in the immediate neighbourhood. Very friendly and helpful staff. Free wi-fi worked well.
Meals were excellent in both restaurants. Staff were superb! Friendly and approachable.....very well trained. Loved the greeters at the hotel entrance! Quiet.......best hotel for quietness we’ve ever stayed in. No noise from lifts or doors banging etc. Loved the location. Very convenient to everything in the CBD and within easy walking distance to the Rocks and Circular Quay. The decor is excellent........
The hotel location is fantastic. Very convenient for Circular Quay, Opera House, Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, Royal Botanical Gardens etc. The old world charm of the hotel is great, if you like that sort of thing. The rooms are large and well equipped. The Concierge services are fantastic and the staff are really knowledgeable and friendly. We really love this hotel and going back to yesteryear.
The location of the Travelodge York Street is perfect for getting from the airport by train and in walking distance to circular quay, the rocks, the Barongaroo precinct and the harbour bridge. You really don’t need a car here at all! The accommodation is very comfortable and clean and very good value for a budget hotel.
Solid hotel near circular quay ( central Sydney). Location is convenient and staff are lovely. I do generally feel that all hotels in Sydney need a upgrade as they tend to feel stuck in the 1990s but the Shangri La is better than its competitors.
Room was very comfortable, a quiet Hostel, which for me is important, but SHYHA is all about the location. It’s 800 metres from Circular Quay, and from my room, through the gloomy Sydney weather, I could see the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
Weekly train ticket is probably the cheaper option if you want to venture further afield than the CBD. However it is rather expensive and cost $84 for the weekly ticket, but this still was the cheaper option for us as we were visiting lots of places and we were only there for 4 days, so gave our ticket away to some others at the airport. The cost of staying in a hotel in the CBD was expensive as well. Wouldn't stay and dine in the CBD again because of the cost. We had dinner at one of the Circular Quay restaurants 'the Sydney Oyster Cove' and being a coeliac was excited to see gluten free on the menu, however my meal wasn't gluten free when it arrived just ruined the dining experience, especially considering the cost of the food and drinks.
some great restaurants with good food and lovely views- Doyles Watsons Bay and Cafe Sydney Circular Quay
Grab a bite to eat in Circular Quay and sit on the benches that overlook the harbor and the opera house.
