Super host family lived nearby. They helped us use the train (a stop is a short drive away) to get to nearby cities. Also recommended a good restaurant, and invited us to join them & their children for a dinner.
Before flying home, we had to get gas for the rental car, and the automated stations do not like our US credit card. The host went with us to a station and used his credit card to buy gas; we repaid him in cash.
