A Symbol of Canadian Pride
On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.
Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.
The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.
The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.

We travel to Ottawa every year or so, owing to having family there. Every year it is seemingly more crowded, more dirty, and there are certainly more homeless/destitute people. We will be spacing out subsequent visits to 'need' only.

Ottawa have wonderful museums and a rich history.
Ottawa have wonderful museums and a rich history. They acknowledge that things could have been done differently with regard to human rights as most nations now are. The architecture was notable. Tourist bureau staff were very helpful. The city has a wonderful array of cuisines inclusive of a range of dietary needs. Our fave vegan and vegetarian options were Pure Kitchen and the Peace Garden. The museums were all well worth the visit.

Ottawa is not too much of a touristic city, in the sense...
Ottawa is not too much of a touristic city, in the sense that there are not too many attractions, compared to other cities. So I wouldn't recommend going there for more than 3 days.
Bearing that in mind, I would advise people to go to the Rideau market for shopping and eating well, maybe to the Rideau shopping mall if you're into that kind of places, and not missing out the Nature Museum.
Of course, historical landmarks such as the Parlament are a must. But they don't take more than an afternoon.

As capital there is a lot to see.
As capital there is a lot to see. In one full day + one morning we visited East wing of parliament, Canadian history museum, Canadian aviation museum, National art gallery and Bytown museum. One day more would have allowed War museum and Supreme court.

Our stay was excellent.
Our stay was excellent. The location was very convenient, with all the major attractions in Ottawa just a short distance away. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were humble, courteous, and very welcoming. Parking was available on the property, which made our stay even more convenient.
The room was clean, spacious, and offered a beautiful view of Parliament Hill. Breakfast was delicious, with a wide variety of tasty options to choose from. For dinner, we enjoyed Ottawa Shawarma, which was a great dining experience and a perfect way to end the day.

It was very convenient that the hotel is only a 2-minute walk from the U.S. Embassy, which made everything much easier and stress-free. I also appreciated that all of my requests were well taken care of by the staff.
I had read some reviews mentioning that it can be noisy at night, but it wasn’t as loud as I expected. Considering it’s located in a busy area, I actually found it relatively quiet.
There are also many restaurants nearby, and being right in a vibrant downtown area was a big plus.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay.

Easily the best overall stay out of our 4 hotels in Canada (and best value! We stayed in early October 2023), including IHG Holiday Inn in Downtown Toronto and Travelodge by Wyndhams in Montreal. Comfortable bed, sparkling clean, excellent breakfast included in the price, helpful, kindly and efficient staff, great location just outside Byward Market area but quiet, room included a kitchenette with kettle, coffee maker, microwave. Rooms and communal areas nicely decorated with paintings etc following a 'blue' theme.

The Business Inn is well located. Not too far from Downtown Ottawa or the Byward Market. The bed was comfortable. Even though the room was outdated, it was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. The room was exceptionally quiet - no street noise or hotel noise could be heard from inside the room. Breakfast was good. There was a great selection of eggs, yogurt, cheese, oatmeal and cereal, along with some fruit. The price was great for the size of the room.

My stay was great. If you don't mind shared lavatories and the acoustics, it's a perfect stay - and heaps cheaper and cleaner than many hotels in Ottawa at at least twice the price! The staff was helpful and friendly. Most guests respected the building's acoustic challenges, making it a pleasant stay.
