Chur is a starting point for the Bernina Express and a major...

Chur is a starting point for the Bernina Express and a major stop on the Glacier Express route. We managed both journeys from there. The town has an interesting history and is very pleasant to wander around. It has a less intimidating feel to it than bigger cities - we arrived in the middle of a local festival parade which celebrated all the local villages which look to Chur as the main town.

Chur is a small town and not much to do in itself but lively on Saturday nights -- seems a lot of people were out in the old town streets. We got there to take Bernina express train, and then go to Zurich.

The city of Chur was good, the accommodations were in a great location but so sparse and minimal we didn’t stay. It is furnished like a youth hostel. Not for seasoned travelers who expect good lodging.

Chur is a start/finish point for the Glacier Express and...

Chur is a start/finish point for the Glacier Express and Bernina Express / Red line. We completed both trips which were spectacular. We also took the train to Arosa for 30 CHF return. Chur has some nice old buildings, plenty of restaurants and shops, and the local museums are interesting and free with the guest card from the hotel.

This town is so quaint.

This town is so quaint. I used to live here and it is a beautiful place with both small city and nature easily accessible. I had coffee at Kaffee Klatsch, walked through the old town, met a friend for lunch at Restaurant Frohsinn and walked up Kreuzgasse to see old neighbors and an amazing view of the Calanda mountain. Don't skip a beautiful walk through the forest at Fürstenwald.

Chur is Switzerland’s smallest city.

Chur is Switzerland’s smallest city. It’s very pretty, and there is skiing. There are also walking paths above the city. This is one end of the Bernina Express, which was our reason for being there overnight- to catch the 8.17 train heading south-east to Tirano in Italy. Being Switzerland, it’s an expensive place, with several high-end restaurants, but we found a couple of schnitzel places which were very nice, and reasonably-priced, in the old town.

The property is set in a beautiful square in the Arcas part of Chur and you are not far at all from the shops and river. The communication about the property and how to get in was very good. There is a lovely cafe called cafe Arcas just next to the property, we had breakfast which was lovely but overpriced as Switzerland is. But just think of it as a beauty tax as Switzerland must be one of the most beautiful countries on earth and this square is beautiful as our its surroundings.

Nice older building right in the old city. Beautiful view from the upper floor room. Comfortable beds and accommodating staff. Very nice breakfast. This hotel didn't feel touristy but was an easy walk to the train station. We were given the guest card Chur that allowed free entrance to the excellent art museum.

Stayed in the annexe and wasn't expecting a sitting room, along with bedroom and bathroom. A very welcome surprise. Best hairdryer I've had in a hotel! Staff were friendly. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options. Location was excellent. Plenty of places to eat! We really like Chur.
