Somewhere to Love
Surrounded by Lake Geneva and glorious Alpine peaks, tranquil Montreux has enchanted artistes through the ages. Lord Byron was so inspired by the style and setting of waterfront Château de Chillon that he wrote a poem about it. Nowadays it is one of Switzerland’s most popular attractions.
Freddie Mercury also fell in love with Montreux and a lakefront statue in Place du Marché commemorates this former resident in typical pose, with one arm raised to the heavens. Queen fans flock here for the annual Memorial Day, just one musical festival hosted by this town. The most famous is the 2-week Montreux Jazz Festival, held in the Music & Convention Centre.
On the opposite side of town is Audiorama (the Swiss National Audiovisual Museum), near a funicular railway which climbs the hill. Further up the slopes is the family-friendly Rochers-de-Naye ski area, while the Les Pléiades pistes overlook neighbouring Vevey. Down at the quayside wooden chalets house stalls of the annual Christmas market.
Summer activities include boat trips, hiking and the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois narrow gauge railway whose trains allow you to really savour the views…and a nice cup of coffee.
The train station also connects to Geneva, site of the nearest airport, and Booking.com offers luxury hotels, apartments with views and cheap B&Bs nearby.

Montreux is a great city.
Montreux is a great city. It's not huge, but it's surrounded by other cities and does require a fair amount of walking or transportation. The Freddie Mercury Statue and Queen Experience are great. And if you continue around the lake you can also experience more history and even pop into France for a while. Be aware that most things are closed on the weekends, I did not realize that and ran into a few problems during my trip.

When leaving the train station, there are many steps leading...
When leaving the train station, there are many steps leading to the lake area where many hotels are located. Most elevators were broken but a nice young man told us to follow the blue line on the sidewalk and it brought us to elevator access which was imporant because of our luggage. We saw many people struggling with the stairs and luggage, who did not know about the elevators.
We spent the first full day on the boat ride to the castle which was amazing and the ride around the lake was lovely. The next night we went to the casino which was fun but they tried to charge us an entrance fee and when we questioned it, he said it’s free with the montreaux riviera card which you automatically get at your hotel, so make sure you ask for it. It saved us $24 on he entry fee.

Montreux is a beautiful city on the banks of lake Geneva. It has magnificent views and a wonderful old-town feel.
We stayed just one night so we did not do much sight-seeing except to visit the statue of Freddy Mercury. Would like to come back and explore Chillon Castle.

Montreux is a beautiful place with lovely mountain and lake views. The walk on the promenade is relaxing and the sight of colourful flowers next to the lake are different every season and so refreshing. There are lots of restaurants on the lake side. It’s a joy to sit and watch the sunset over the lake. Montreux is one of my favourite place and I love to visit every year.

Montreux was wonderful to visit and the traveler cards the hotel provides gives you free access to public transportation and sites along with discounts is a great bonus. We used the busses and trains multiple times a day. We went to the Charlie Chaplin Experience which is very worth your time. The Chillon Castle and the Freddi Mercury Experience walking tour should also be included during your visit. It was warm, I would even say hot so being able to walk out and cool yourself off in the lake was wonderful. The city was setting for the Jaxx Festival to the quay form the Freddi Mercury Statue south to the Convention Center was full of tent and stages. We were north of this area and were not affected, lake access was normal and view were not impeded, I can't say that for hotels in this section of the lake area.
Highly recommend this hotel.

we are a family of 5 with 3 kids. we loved the location of the hotel, right at the lake, spectacular view from our balcony to the lake. the booked a mona suite and was perfect size for us. we rented the free of charge bike and went to château de chillon. we could park in the garage, book in advance a spot. a big plus was the lobby, with free of charge beverage options and pop corn. such a nice idea. my kids loved it and the adults as well. :-) its a small gesture with a big impact. well done mona hotel. montreux is so so nice.

Oldest hotel in Montreux and has a home feel as if you are staying with your Swiss grandparents. We came as a group of 3 that turned to 4 last minute for the Jazz Festival. They accommodated us quickly with a 4th bed. Great location to get quickly to the venue and quiet enough to sleep away from the commotion. It was so quiet, we had to add our own white noise to the room.

The Jazz theme is present throughout the hotel. Joao and the rest of the staff are excellent and very kind. Bus stop for line 206 right in front of the hotel, very convenient to go down to the lake/train station. Value for money in central Montreux.
