This hotel is literally across the street from Montreux’s major rail station, where the Golden Pass concludes from Zweisimmen. Surrounded by Lake Geneva and glorious Alpine peaks, tranquil Montreux has enchanted artistes through the ages. Lord Byron was so inspired by the style and setting of waterfront Château de Chillon that he wrote a poem about it. Nowadays it is one of Switzerland’s most popular attractions.
Freddie Mercury also fell in love with Montreux and a lakefront statue in Place du Marché commemorates this former resident in typical pose, with one arm raised to the heavens. Queen fans flock here for the annual Memorial Day, just one musical festival hosted by this town. The most famous is the 2-week Montreux Jazz Festival, held in the Music & Convention Centre.
On the opposite side of town is Audiorama (the Swiss National Audiovisual Museum), near a funicular railway which climbs the hill. Further up the slopes is the family-friendly Rochers-de-Naye ski area, while the Les Pléiades pistes overlook neighbouring Vevey. Down at the quayside wooden chalets house stalls of the annual Christmas market.
Summer activities include boat trips, hiking and the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois narrow gauge railway whose trains allow you to really savour the views…and a nice cup of coffee.
The train station also connects to Geneva, site of the nearest airport, and Booking.com offers luxury hotels, apartments with views and cheap B&Bs nearby.
Great for using as a base for travelling. Good boat trips on the lake and recommended for the Christmas Market. Riviera card saved some money when travelling with free bus travel between Vevey and Villeneuve along the lakeside.
Wonderful place. The city is confined in a narrow region between the lake and steep mountain, but still well organized without mess. There are several parking buildings which was ok during the jazz fest in September. So many wonderful places to visit if you take mountain trains from Montreux.
Such a beautiful relaxing place, so easy to get to from Geneva, lovely train journey. Clean, amazing public transport. The walk around the lake too Chillon Castle is beautiful. Could easily spend 4+days here 🫶🇨🇭❤️
Beautiful small town surrounded by stunning scenery. We had a lovely meal up at Hotel Victoria which had an exquisite view of the alps. We wish we could have had more time relaxing and exploring as there was plenty on offer, including boat and water based activities.
Don't stay near the lake; the lake view is pretty but it is just that. Go to the vineyard area, the view of hills and the lake are prettier. Montreux is too noisy, too crowdy, too messy for me. Vevey are better.
A nice place location mid of Geneva and Interlaken. The place is comforting and city is good with shopping places and Casino. The best things to see is Chillion Castle, the chocolate train to Maison Cailler, Glacier 3000.
