Hotel Mona is in a great location: 3-5 minutes from train station, escalator and elevator are available on the street close to the hotel was helpful to avoid carrying luggage up/down many steep stairs, one-minute walk to shops. Located right on the lake promenade/waterfront. Beautiful views from our panoramic room! Outdoor hot tub on a spacious sun deck with beautiful view of the water. Complementary self-serve water, juice, coffee and popcorn. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast area was large and looked lovely, however, we did not pay extra for this option.
Opened in 1896, the Belle-Epoque Hotel Eden Palace au Lac enjoys a lakefront position just a 5-minute walk from Montreux Train Station.

The location is excellent for getting the full experience of the region. The staff are friendly. They offer luggage storage before and after the visit. There is a lot of potential for this location. Hopefully the flaws mentioned in my negative review get addressed to make this an excellent place to stay.

Surrounded by Lake Geneva and glorious Alpine peaks, tranquil Montreux has enchanted artistes through the ages. Lord Byron was so inspired by the style and setting of waterfront Château de Chillon that he wrote a poem about it. Nowadays it is one of Switzerland’s most popular attractions.
Freddie Mercury also fell in love with Montreux and a lakefront statue in Place du Marché commemorates this former resident in typical pose, with one arm raised to the heavens. Queen fans flock here for the annual Memorial Day, just one musical festival hosted by this town. The most famous is the 2-week Montreux Jazz Festival, held in the Music & Convention Centre.
On the opposite side of town is Audiorama (the Swiss National Audiovisual Museum), near a funicular railway which climbs the hill. Further up the slopes is the family-friendly Rochers-de-Naye ski area, while the Les Pléiades pistes overlook neighbouring Vevey. Down at the quayside wooden chalets house stalls of the annual Christmas market.
Summer activities include boat trips, hiking and the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois narrow gauge railway whose trains allow you to really savour the views…and a nice cup of coffee.
The train station also connects to Geneva, site of the nearest airport, and Booking.com offers luxury hotels, apartments with views and cheap B&Bs nearby.

I went to Montreux specifically for the Freddie Mercury celebration days but quickly fell in love with it. The entire area is stunning and everything feels so relaxed.
I had heard it was a bit expensive but I found it pretty equal to any other capital I have visited although beer is expensive in bars - around 9.90 CHF for a pint on average.
Eating out was comparable to most places I have visited and there are some fabulous eateries.
It is a very easy city to get around on foot although there are also excellent public transport links.
The public transport from Montreux is excellent meaning you can also explore surrounding areas. I travelled into Vevey one day - 40 minutes on the bus - to visit Chaplin's World, a museum dedicated to Charlie Chaplin. It is extremely easy to spend a day in these areas thanks to the excellent transport links. (I also would thoroughly recommend Chaplin's World.
With such stunning scenery and such a chilled way of life it is easy to see why people fall in love with Montreux and never leave.

Well worth a visit and plenty to do in a stay of a week.
Well worth a visit and plenty to do in a stay of a week. On the other hand, we preferred Vevey which seems more spacious and less touristy - more people were going about everyday jobs there. The lake cruise is wonderful (we included the lunch on board), and the mountain railways are efficient, if rather crowded at times - best to go early if possible. The lakeside walk to Chateau Chillon is wonderful too - again, best to go early morning.

This was a stop in a longer trip to Switzerland.
This was a stop in a longer trip to Switzerland. We were there as they were getting ready for the Jazz fest so there was alot of construction. We loved the Lavaux vineyard area and enjoyed the steam boat tour of the lake, and Chillion Castle as well. However if pressed for time on your first visit to Switzerland this is the area I would skip, but that is my personal preference.

I’ve known Montreux since childhood; it has always been one of my favourite places in the world, and it hasn’t lost its charm.
It has everything: the enchantment of Lac Leman, breathtaking Mountain View’s, old-world elegance and charm.
Plenty of activity or every season, a thriving arts scene, great shops and restaurants, and a wonderful laid-back atmosphere.

Amazing city full of contrasts parts are quiet and reflective with beautiful gardens along the lake side. On the other the hustle and bustle of a busy city with a plethora of bars and restaurants. Can be a bit pricey but we did find some excellent restaurants away from the front that were fab and reasonable. Great transport we used the free bus service (for those staying in montreaux). Would recommend the paddle streamer on the lake we took an amazing trip to Lausanne. Will be back to explore further.

The host, Thomas, was really nice guy. He volunteered some advices how to get around Montreux interesting places, including the seasonal Xmas market. He was really friendly to accomodate our needs and provided assistance to carry our luggages. The B&B were spacious and have dining areas at 2nd and 3rd floor respectively. There are amenities for guests to prepare their own meals. I like the breakfast. The varieties could compete with some hotels, honestly. Definitely a good place to stay.
Incredible hotel. Everyone was so hospitable and welcoming. We came with our 2 year old son who was so spoilt (in the best way!). A great hotel for a luxurious stay in Montreux.
Room was great, view exceptional. Montreux is a beautiful city so it's not hard to achieve that with a comfortable room, if you have a hotel with a view.
