Visiting Buckow is like visiting the past;
Visiting Buckow is like visiting the past; a time when there was only one grocery store and one ice-cream shop. There is no bustle of fuss. On the face of it, it might seem like there's nothing to do here, but it is precisely this paucity of Things To Do In Buckow that makes it great. There are the lakes to walk round, the woodland trails over the hills to wander, the boat trip up Schermützelsee to take, the rowing boats to hire or borrow to enjoy the solitude of the middle of the lake at dusk, the ice-cream shop to patronise and the great cafe by the beach to visit for chips and no frills coffee. It all costs pennies.
If you don't want to walk too far, take a walk up the hill behind the Schlosspark. From the top you get an idyllic view of the valleys and pasture land on the other side. From there you can appreciate the "Schweiz" name of the region.
There are a few restaurants in the town centre, my favourites being the Stobbermuhle hotel restaurant (excellent food and location, slightly higher price) and the newly opened Mondo Mangiare, which specialises in both Italian and Indian food. This restaurant would still be excellent if it charged 50% more.
Only caveat is that you should be equipped with insecticide.
