Deutsche Eiche is a charming hotel and restaurant in the picturesque, medieval town of Grebenstein that is straight out of a fairy tale. My daughter and I spent 3 nights at the Deutsche Eiche. The room was spacious with 2 twin beds with nightstands and 2 clothing racks as well as a small table with 2 chairs. The ensuite bathroom had a nice shower. There is on site parking which is convenient. We ate dinner in the restaurant the evening of our arrival and the schnitzel with mushroom sauce was delicious! Breakfast the following morning (not included) consisted of a personal platter of breads, meats, cheeses, and jams as well as yogurt, a soft-boiled egg, and coffee. It was ample, hearty, and very tasty. The dining room is rustically attractive and inviting. The staff was friendly and attentive. I hope to visit Grebenstein again in the future and would definitely stay at the Deutsche Eiche again.

The breakfast was excellent. Bread, meat and jelly, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt. The small lady with the glasses who took care of the breakfast was so friendly and helpful. When I come back to Kassel, I am definitely going to stay at Schaferberg again. Thank you.

Grebenstein is an enchanting medieval town that is straight...

Grebenstein is an enchanting medieval town that is straight of out of a fairy tale with its timbered houses and Rapunzel-like towers encircling the town center. It is fascinating to walk along the streets and read the inscriptions of who lived in the centuries-old, well-preserved houses. The ruins of a burg from the 1300s sit atop a nearby hill and afford a magnificent view of the town and surrounding countryside. There is a newly renovated (2023) natural (chlorine-free) public pool with a lap pool, wading pool (with and without sandy bottom), toddler pool, concession stand. It is a lovely facility (with showers and changing rooms) and the daily admission is only 4 Euro per person. For lunch or supper, I recommend Pizzeria Royal Grill. We had delicious gyros (doenner) and stromboli. For dinner, the Deutsche Eiche offered a wonderful schnitzel with a superb mushroom sauce. Within a 20 minute drive, there are several castles to visit including Wilhelmsthal, Sababurg, and, in Kassel, Wilhelmshoehe with the Herkules statue and cascading water attraction.
