Mittenwald is about 1.5 hours from Munich airport and close...
Mittenwald is about 1.5 hours from Munich airport and close to the Austrian border. It's position is perfect for mountain hiking in both the Karwendel and Wendelstein ranges. It's far less crowded than Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I did two major day hikes in late June in fairly hot weather (32C in the town). There are at least 4-5 full-day hikes that start within easy reach of the hotel. If you don't want Bavarian cuisine every night, there are plenty of alternative restaurants and even in June booking didn't seem necessary.

Mittenwald is a charming town with great restaurants and lovely shops. We ate at Osteria Bella Vista, Wildfang and Joseph's twice, never had a bad meal! The outdoor opportunities are endless and more lovely towns a short distance away, especially Seefeld. We'd love to go back in the summer!

A beautiful little town in the mountains.
A beautiful little town in the mountains. There are sooo many choices of where to eat. Walking around oldtown is a treat with the paintings on the buildings, views of the mountains and decisions of where to eat. Oldtown is completely walkable.

Picture perfect Mittenwald has the perfect balance of of beautiful buildings, plenty of food options, and beautiful shops. We enjoyed spending an afternoon hiking the nearby Leutasch-Klamm Wasserfallsteig.

We've been to Mittenwald many times and it's one of my favorite places in the region. It's a beautiful village with lots to see and do. There are many places to hike and a cable car trip to the top of Karwendel is a great way to spend a day.

Mittenwald has a lot to offer for all ages and interests.
Mittenwald has a lot to offer for all ages and interests. The historical city centre has a number of sights and a good choice of restaurants - for many the real beauty begins once you leave the city. From taking cable cars, walking along the river or through the forest to climbing peaks up to around 2,500 m, the natural surroundings are stunning. The city does a good job at offering public buses that take tourists to the most important sights and trailheads, giving us the chance to leave the car at home and help preserve the gem that Mittenwald is!

“We stayed at the beginning of December; the days were cold, but the room was warm and cozy. The room had a balcony, everything was clean, and the atmosphere was completely harmonious. The hotel staff helped us overcome the language barrier and were very patient. There is parking right under the hotel, and the breakfasts are wonderful, in true German style — a great selection of meats and cheeses! I thank the hostess and recommend this place to everyone for a pleasant stay.”

This is a friendly and comfortable hotel with pleasing terraces overlooking Mittenwald and unobstructed mountain views. The view from my comfortable room was spectacular. There is parking directly at the hotel and a walking path down into the town. The beautiful Lautersee is up the road and it is possible to do a circular walking tour encompassing the wonderful Lainbach waterfalls that spill out of that lake as well as numerous other walking and biking routes in the area.

Great location, clean hotel, very good breakfast with good quality/homemade spreads, that can easily accomodate vegetarian people's needs.
Beds were comfy, room a bit small, but ok. Personnel very nice and the terrace to drink coffee and look at the mountains great.
We forgot to book a parking in advance but there is parking nearby, near the supermarket. There is a supermarket 3 min away.
