Embraced by the sandy Costa Blanca beaches and caressed by the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Alicante has a rich heritage built over thousands of years. Alacant (as it's known in Valencian) has a deep history ranging from the first tribes that arrived at the slopes of Mount Benacantil to Greeks, Romans and Moors. Nowadays, this modern city boasts a bustling harbour, great Spanish nightlife, charming old streets and modern beach resorts.
Overlooking the city from the top of Mount Benacantil, the Castle of Santa Barbara was built in the 9th century during Islamic rule. Cascading down the slopes towards the city centre, L'Ereta Park has terraced levels that offer stunning panoramic views of the city. The remains of the ancient Roman town of Lucentum are also just a few kilometres away.
Barrio de la Santa Cruz is the historic quarter, featuring narrow streets, old houses and cobbled steps. Framed by palm trees and covered with a snaking pattern of white, red and blue tiles, the Explanada de Espana is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful promenades.
After arriving at Alicante Airport, indulge yourself in a resort near San Juan beach, or enjoy the view of luxurious yachts moored at the marina from a cosy B&B: Booking.com has the perfect spot for you to discover the magic of Alicante!
Very attractive holiday resort. Bus goes straight from airport to city centre for less than 4 euros. Tourist office very helpful. Expect very little English when shopping or seeking information. The bus tour and salt mine visits were highlights as well as the many art works and restaurants. The Santa Barbara castle is a delight - use the elevator on street level (beach front) to get there!! Excellent views from the top. The little eateries in the side streets and plazas are cheaper and serve excellent food. So is the accommodation especially if you're on a budget!
Santa Barbara castle is lovely with a lift part of the way for those of us who don't like to climb but a lovely walk down especially in the evening. Fabulous views of the city. Also visited the Archaeological Museum which was fantastic. If you're looking for vegan/vegetarian and gluten free food, I would highly recommend Vegan bombon sin gluten, Restaurante la Taverna Dell´ Artista and Mish Mish
Paul liked the beach. It was near the harbour and busy but not a problem to us. I likes the Santa Barbara Castle. We got a taxi up to the castle. Wouldn’t walk it even if not hot! However, we’re not hikers. Views are great but we went up loads of steps even from our taxi although it said you could go in the lift,if you were infirm. There are two nice cafes to relax in. Interesting artifacts to see. We went down in the lift. Ali anti has a nice vibe about it. Loads of boats in the harbour. I went in an interesting department store.
Alicante is charming and has many to offer, but 5 days are enough, you do not need 9 as we had! Food is excellent, especially the Italian restaurants! :))) We loved Santa Barbara Castle, Explanada de Espana, Port of Alicante, Postiguet Beach (not the prices of the sunbeds, that we couldn't afford-27 euros for two beds and an umbrella)! Parque lo Morant could be very beautiful but nobody takes care of it so do not bother to visit it, Mushroom Street is very funny and Alicante Central Market was a little bit disappointing, very expensive and a few stalls, not like that one in Barcelona. No vibe in the market.
We loved Alicante, it is such a beautiful old town. But you do have to do your research and know what you want as if you just stay in the main tourist zone, you miss out on all the old beautiful parts of Alicante. Take a tram as it is €1.45 and you can travel to costal.places. Try smaller restaurants, walkin into old town, learn Spanish a bit and learn the culture. Go to museums ( all free), go to bookshops as most had a lovely cafe inside. We avoided nightlife and instead got up early and explore the Central market and beach before it was too hot. We have explored most touristy places and found them all free to enter and very interesting.
Sophisticated, cosmopolitan and compact. Easy to get around on public transport and a foodie heaven. Terracotta Army exhibition is a must see if you get the chance. Stay in the Old Town if you can. There’s a lot of road improvements/building work going on, so check where you’re thinking of staying.
Alicante
I loved loved loved staying here. It was just what I needed… the flat was like staying at a luxury hotel but I had more autonomy with cooking my own foood and just generally being in charg of my own space. One perk I enjoyed was the couch infront of the tv could be turned into a bed which was perfect after having had a long week. It was a quick walk from the beach and not too far from the old town. The recptionists werw super helpful and if I am ever back in Alicante I will definetly be staying here again.
Location was ideal, just behind Alicante food market and five minutes walk from the airport bus drop off! Hotel was quite small, but nothing wrong with that. Room was fine and clean. Staff weren't particularly fairly and didn't really want to engage. Noone spoke much English. But then again it is Alicante, not Skegness, so fair enough. Close to the city centre, the train and to the sea front. Plenty of amenities in the vicinity both shops, bakeries and restaurants. Not much not to like!
Great location. Their own restaurant food was excellent...as was their Irish coffee... dare I say the best I've had? Says allot! Didn't use the gym or pool but pushed a double rep of breakfast in bed... very pleasant indeed. The hotel is in the old part of alicante port... it's not to say it's not touristy... but there are still pockets of authentic Alicante... you just need to look and notice. They have a car park if you're driving.
Hotel is located outside the city centre - 50 min walk - but has no. 23 bus service immediately outside which makes travel to/from the city very convenient. It is also a 20 min walk or 6-7 min bus ride to the nearest tram station and 20 min walk to Albuferta beach. Lovely informed staff. Very clean and rooms serviced daily. Pool and sun bathing area are good. Did not use restaurant but looked busy with good breakfast and dinner buffets.
The staff members were very helpful, all the facilities were exceptionally clean. There is a water tank in the reception so you can fill your water bottle (really helpful in the summertime to keep hydrated). We walked to the main attractions of Alicante from the hotel. The facilities of the hotel had stairs to get in, however, there was a lift for wheelchair users. The room was big enough as it also provided circulation/manoeuvring areas.
Very good value for money - not easy to find a room that fits a family of 5 into a family room - but this hotel had what we needed. The place had enough place. We stayed in principle for the quick access to Alicante Airport. The pool area was nice, the water was warm, kids enjoyed the large space where our toddler could stand straight. The food in the restaurant was also ok - breakfast also.
Friendly staff who were very helpful. Room was solid, AC takes a minute to kick in but quite good for the cost. The interior of the hotel is nice, the exterior less impressive. Location is a bit out of the way but good if you want to be between Alicante center and San Juan beach to the east. Property is a 7 but the staff are a 10 so I rounded to an 8. All in all a good experience!
The hotel is clean , the bed very confortable , the most important in the summer , the Air Condition working super !!! , the Breakfast very good , location is the best , you do not need a car , every thing is within walking distance , shops , tram , buses , 07 minutes walking to the port of Alicante and 10 minutes walk to the beach .
The hotel is very nice, central to walking anywhere in Alicante. To beach, to Castle, marina and many restaurant options in the area. Took number C6 bus from airport and the stop was right across the street. We walked 10 minutes to the train station for our next destination. Breakfast was good, varied and continuously replenished.
The best thing about the hotel is the location, like nothing can beat 6-7 minute walk to the beach, and that's the highlight of the city in general. The room and the hotel is well decorated and equipped. Staff was so helpful and we have daily cleaning, so everything was great. There's a lift in the hotel as well.
Great location of the hotel, close to the beach and city centre. The staff is really helpful and friendly. They tried their best to check us in earlier because we have a baby. The room was bigger than we expected and clean. Breakfast is good with lots of options Overall a great stay.We are definitely going back again.
Alicante
Cristian was so helpful, and prepared a homemade breakfast each morning! In addition, the location really is a 10/10. I lived in Alicante for a couple months a few years ago and am very familiar with the neighborhoods, and this hotel puts you in the perfect location for access to everything!
Excellent view: The best view on the Alicante City with the premium room, Breath taking. Location excellent: close to the city centre, to the beach, shop and tram. Room: very comfortable, spacious, clean, very good aircon, clean, comfortable beds. I cannot say more, very good wifi.
Alicante
Everything. The apartment was new, good size, nice bed, great shower, with all the amenities we needed. The staff is wonderful. The location is great, close to all the attractions in Alicante, close to the Postiguet beach, in the city center with an area full of good restaurants.
Alicante
Wow! Excellent place to stay, close to the city centre, beach, supermarket and restaurants. Stated in many places in Alicante and this is the best so far. It has everything you need and more. We stayed in the penthouse room. It was big, spacious and clean.
Alicante
