Maybe an interesting town, if you look at the history. You see old buildings, a fascinating corniche and impressing churches . but the way to follow the direction to the Moroccan borders is terrible you must calculate hours to pass a few hundred meters . I made this experience in January, and I do not want to think of the situation during the summer and tourists ' situation . The formalities , asked by one side or the other, are ridiculous - why do I need a " tarjeta turista " as a resident of Morocco ?? Nobody could explain this to me ... But to obtain this little sheet of paper you have to spend hours at the border .
I enjoyed Ceuta, I was planning to only pass through to the frontier with Morroco, circumstances changed and stay in Ceuta allday and night but I think I would not find enough to do for more than a day; it was winter time, so maybe a revisit is due in the summer!
Everything is in walking distance, the place is friendly and there is lots to do, and of course Gilbralter is never really out of site. The historic walls are A 1, the beaches are inviting and one is enclosed by historic walls.
Small town getaway if you want a break from Morocco. Interesting fortifications, nice beach cafés, great tapas. Good for inexpensive shopping - plenty of supermarkets, and retail outlets (especially near the port).
The people, the food and the shopping are fantastic. The architecture is stunning, the history is fascinating. The beaches and Swimming Park are out of this world. One piece of advise. Learn some Spanish or French. Both languages have been invaluable to us
The light here for taking photographs is just amazing. Everywhere you look is pretty blue sea. It would probably be nice to take a SUP tour through the channel at the bastion or to visit the famous swimming pools, but it was too cold this time around. The heart of the city has some decent buildings, but if you drive around a bit you'll see that there's not much to look at, just apt buildings and some run-down houses. The city itself is not really impressive in any way. It's a military enclave and so you'll see military buildings salt-and-peppered throught the peninsula, which are more functional than aesthetically pleasing to be sure. You will see loads of lost boys everywhere, which is sad and unfortunate as they have nothing to do while they wait to smuggle themselves onto a boat to mainland Europe (you will see them try this while you are waiting in line with your car to board the ferry). You'll see lots of police on the streets and every shop has a guard. There isn't much in terms of parks or natural spots; every inch of buildable terrain has been turned into an apartment building. You can take your car up the mountain to see the views which is nice, but I'm not sure about hiking as a lot of the area seems to be restricted for military access only. The few beaches leave a lot to be desired, although the water itself is crystal clear. I just wasn't very impressed overall.
Made the trip from Algeciras to Ceuta by helicopter Heliport was a 5 minute walk to town centre and hotel Hotel is on one of the main streets in Ceuta so perfect location Room was very nice and bed was super comfy Plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance - in fact everything is within walking distance Overall great value for money and would recommend
Nice hotel, apparently it belongs to Hotel Ulises, so you have to go there to check in and arrange things, but the receptionists were kind and helpful. When we were there, the hotel was totally empty, so it was peaceful and quiet with a good location, the room was quite big and well-lit.
