A traditional residence from the end of the 19th century, the Hotel Edelweiss is 656 feet from a free shuttle bus, which drives the 0.6 mi to Serre Chevalier ski slopes and Monetier-les-Bains. Daily breakfasts were a consistent high quality buffet including the French essentials. The room was spacious and of high standard. The town was perfect for my needs for eating out and sightseeing, especially the fort and old town area.

Auberge de la Paix is a charming French inn located in the heart of the beautiful old town of Briançon. Individually decorated rooms feature satellite TV and free Wi-Fi is available in public areas. Situated in the old city walls, it’s a unique location that is matched by the friendly staff and excellent food. The room, bed, wine, breakfast, the kindness toward our dog...all delightful. There is a great character to this place. Very personable, as the best auberges are.

Located in the center of Briançon, 1148 feet from the chairlift and 9.3 mi from Monêtiers les Bains, Hôtel de la Chaussée offers a traditional restaurant, a bar and a terrace. If you like hotels dripping with old-world charm, stay here. The room (and breakfast room) is paneled in wood, and full of strange carved objects and animals. Every time we entered our room, we were bathed in natural pine scent from the woodwork. Thu luggage "rack" in our room was a trunk bearing an inscription from the year 1799! Everything was comfortable, but simple. The breakfast was maybe one click too simple, but didn't detract from our stay. Our room was in a secondary (and very historic) building across the street from the hotel reception. We were planning to stay 4 nights but extended it to 5, because our large room (L1?) was comfortable, and the location, at the edge of the old town (but not the elevated Cite Vauban) was good. There is no end of outdoor activities here - hiking, biking, sightseeing, and presumably skiing in winter. Oh, and check out the Italian restaurant one block from the hotel; it's excellent, and always busy.

Great varierty of restaurants and shops. Everyone very friendly. Easy to park not very expensive. Paths cleared of snow. Lots to see and do that don't cost anything. A few takeaways .including McDonalds and vans selling pizza and kebabs which seemed to be doing briskly business. Well.worth a visit.
Good choice for active travellers because nestled in the intersection of several valleys (great possibilities for biking and hiking). The old part of the town is nice but a little bit too much turist-oriented: certainly it's a good choice for a rest day after sport activities.
Stayed in the summer for a cycling holiday. The new and old sides of Briancon are a travellers delight. You are not far from a number of popular cycling routes including the Col D’Izoard and Galbier. I will return
Excellent ski resort, with access to many ski runs along the valley and surrounding mountains. Outside the ski season, there are walks in almost every direction, with varying levels of difficulty. There is a good choice of hotels and restaurants, at various price levels. The town has two main parts, the "Old Town" being within a previously fortified locality, provides great views over the surrounding area. The "New Town" is relatively compact, and has facilities such as supermarkets that you would expect in any French town. Access to Briançon is straighforward by car or train, and flights to and from Turin airport can use a shuttle bus.
We loved our stay in the historical old town. We hired ski equipment close to the ski lift and had a locker which meant that everything was very straight forward as We didn’t need to carry equipment from our accommodation. The bus service was very unreliable particularly to the old town ....If you do not wish to climb the steep hill perhaps consider a different location. We visited when there was an excessive snowfall, people were all helping each other, there always seemed to be a good community spirit even the very young were helping to clear the snow. Pathways were cleared regularly starting at 5.30am !
A lovely old town with excellent restaurants and winding medieval streets surrounded by a magnificent view of the Alps. In winter the ski resort is second to none. Only strange thing is that restaurants only have Menu cards in French and nobody speaks English or German (perhaps a few in Italian) so you will either choose blindly or use Google Translate on your phone which makes the dining experience a bit uncomfortable.
Briançon
The house is perfectly located in the middle of the old town in Briancon. It has four separate bedrooms, which can comfortably accommodate at least 8 people. Additionally, it has two living rooms fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable dining room. It is a real historical building adapted to the requirements of a modern vacation home with all the amenities. You really feel as if you have gone a few centuries back without losing any comfort on your vacation. Public parking is less than 100 meters away.
The breakfast was excellent and had a wide variety of choices. Scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, crepes, fresh breads, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice, tea, and coffee. There was also plenty of seating in the dining room. The hotel is centrally located and there's a MacDonald's nearby. There's also a grocery store and small mall next to the hotel.
The staff are friendly and helpful at this mountain-lodge style hotel. Rooms are very comfortable and clean. The breakfast is good. There is good parking. Having a balcony was nice too. Excellent value and I would stay again. (Probably worth packing some earplugs in case those in neighbouring rooms decide to get up very very early.)
I spent a day of rest on my GR5 hike in Briancon. First impression (from outside, hallways..) wasn't too good but ultimately really enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Cristol. Friendly staff, great location just outside the old city...
