Hotel Mercure Chartres Cathedrale is located at the heart of Chartres, overlooking the cathedral and market. It has air-conditioned rooms with satellite TV and free WiFi access.

Rooms were fine, large enough, comfortable. The location is great, an easy walk to the cathedral and old town. Value is spot on. If you drive, there is a convenient space in front of the hotel where you can unload your vehicle and check in. After you check in, best to park in the Coeur de Ville parking lot nearest the hotel, better still to reserve your spot online.

Located in the center of Chartres, in front of the train station, Jehan De Beauce is a contemporary hotel offering a sauna and an on-site bar.

We are super satisfied with this hotel! Everything from the location, the room and the breakfast was excellent. The service was extra ordinary and a special thank you to Fabris and Fanny that made our stay perfect. We strongly recommend this hotel because you got a very good value for you money and it was so easy to take the train to Paris with the train station just across the street!

FAQs about hotels in Chartres

A Labyrinth of History and Architecture

Chartres is a French medieval town in the Eure-et-Loir department, about 90 km from Paris. Home to historic 16th-century buildings, half-timber houses, narrow streets and large squares, this well preserved city will amaze you with its beauty.

The 13th-century Cathedral of Chartres is the city’s main landmark and a famous site of Christian pilgrimage. Featuring 18th-century stained-glass windows and a stunning façade with bas-relief sculptures and stone statues, this UNESCO World Heritage is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in France.

On the back side of the Cathedral, travellers will find a Grass Labyrinth, date back to around 1200. According to the tradition, pilgrims used to go to the centre of the labyrinth in order to receive the grace of God.

The Massacre Bridge is one of the bridges crossing the Eure River, which flows right to the heart of the old part of the city. Chartres has also beautiful churches like the St. Aignan and the St. Martin-au-Val.

Chartres Train Station offers direct trains to Paris and Booking.com will help you find a hotel close to the station, in the city centre or in the nearby cities of Lucé and Mainvilliers.

Central Chartres is a mix of old and new with many historical buildings and of course the amazing cathedral. Lots of lovely local restaurants ranging from brasseries to Greek/Turkish family cooking and people are very friendly. Loved walking along the river to get different perspectives of the cathedral

Whilst the amazing Cathedral of Chartres must be its main draw, the city centre itself is well worth a visit, being a mass of mediaeval lanes and alleys fully of lovely old buildings as well as lots of shops and eateries. The river Eure also flows through the city and a walk along it is recommended. One further piece of entertainment not to miss are the various light shows projected every night onto various walls, bridges and churches as well as the cathedral. Extraordinary does not do the show justice. Overall a great place to visit for a weekend - 2 days (and nights) would probably be enough.

    Lovely town.

Lovely town. Very easy access with the train station and bus station. All the people were very friendly, though not many spoke English, we managed to get by. Fabulous Cathedral with a brilliant light show every night.

Lovely little town, very contained and walkable.

Lovely little town, very contained and walkable. There are many restaurants everywhere as it is a definite tourist town. 2 days is more than long enough to visit and see everything, it would also be fine for a day trip from Paris.

A terrific gem of a city.

A terrific gem of a city. Very walkable with many great cafes and bistros. Not the typical American tourist spot, but we felt welcomed. The Cathedral is so amazing and worthy of several hours to appreciate it. Tours are available and worth it. If your visit is in summer, the city night light show is very unique and artistic. Take the tiny train to see it all. Great home base location to visit nearby chateaus too. The local TI wasn't as helpful (although their building is very cool) as the Chartres visitors center across the street from the front of the Cathedral.

Well cared for historic environment with good traffic...

Well cared for historic environment with good traffic controls in centre Lots of steep streets.. easily overcome by electric bike ! Busy with tourists, but not annoyingly so ( Sept)…might be very crowded earlier in the season..some excellent cafes and restaurants.. and good food shops. In addition to the cathedral and several churches, the Vitrail (stained glass) Centre is a must. The hotel was a bit of a surprise (old converted priory) and quite basic..but perfectly adequate for a short stay if one is out and about during the day..very friendly staff…I got the impression they were catering more for small groups attending seminars, than sole travellers, but this not a criticism… a spin off permitted listening to some really good choral music.Access is a bit tricky by large car because of the narrow mediaeval streets, but gps. certainly helps. I would gladly recommend both Chartres and Hotellerie Saint Yves to my friends….and hope to retun,
