An absolute stunning gem of a town, the cathedral is stunning. Especially whimsical at Christmas, but charming enough to warrant a visit at any time of the year! Also don’t be afraid to use your french here, people are excited to hear you try and eager to help you if you need.

Surprisingly good.

Surprisingly good. Very pleasant to walk around, lots of cafes and plenty to visit in a short break. Pompidou Centre was excellent. Cathedral was magnificent. Metz is off the beaten track for English tourists, mainly because there are no direct flights, but it's a great place to visit. Just fly to Luxembourg and get a train.

Metz has been continuously occupied since the Bronze Age and the city has traces visible back to its importance as a major trading post in the Gallo-Roman period. The Musée de La Cour d’Or is a must-see, as it takes you through the city’s history in one of its most iconic medieval structures. The confluence of the rivers La Seille and the Moselle is beautiful to wander around, over stone bridges, through medieval streets and past the iconic Temple Neuf (former German protestant church) and up to the superb gothic cathedral that dominates the city’s skyline. Metz is definitely worth a visit.

A pleasant and beautiful historic town, with great museums, good restaurants, and lots to see and learn. Not a destination for mass tourism, which is another great plus. Not too big, so everything can be walked. Really worth to spend a few relaxing quality days.

A wonderful exhibition space in the heart of the Pompidou Center. Be sure to plan lunch at UME, the museum’s restaurant, it’s incredibly delicious! Don’t miss the 6,500 square meters of unique stained glass in the cathedral, created by Marc Chagall and Jacques Villon-absolutely breathtaking.

Lots to do in the lovely city of Metz.

Lots to do in the lovely city of Metz. The Cathedral was absolutely stunning and so was the Museum cour d’Or - extremely impressive not only for its collection of varied artefacts but it was so well laid out with explanatory information in multiple languages, including English - and it was free! Lots of wonderful places to eat too - had a great meal at La Table with a warm and friendly host serving us.

Beautiful accommodation with reminders of bygone times, a former military stronghold. Steps down to reception, but a receptionist very kindly hastened to assist us with our luggage. Large room, excellent bed, excellent shower and corner bath. Separate toilet, which is always a bonus. Parking directly in front of the hotel. Short walk into the centre. Tip: bus N83 at the busstop Republique is free and drives right through the centre from the cathedral to Centre Pompidou Metz.

Great hotel in the city centre, bit difficult to find due to the one way road, had to park outside until we'd paid for the parking under ground. The hotel only has 9 parking places so best to book parking in advance, not a problem for us as we were able to squeeze the motorbikes in even though the car park was full. Only a short walk to the where all the restaurants and cafes are.

The welcoming staff, including how they welcomed our dog. The city-centre location directly across from the cathedral. Beautiful large room with many historic features and superb view of the cathedral. Exceedingly comfortable bed. Delicious, fresh breakfast with a massive selection of different fresh fruits. Lovely lunch in the hotel restaurant. Very fast WiFi connection.

A nice-looking, pretty big apartment, located in a suburb of Metz close to the centre (about 10-15 min on a bike), and a supermarket and bakery around the corner. We went with our dog, and to walk it there's a park directly nearby. Great communication with the owner as well.

Convenient, clean and ideally located hotel for a one night stop off as we drive through France. Friendly, helpful staff who were kind and helped us find somewhere for dinner as well as advising us about breakfast options.
