Lodge was fine and place to eat in Halifax as it was yards from venue I was going to, just transport problems because of Rail strike and cheeky taxi driver who charged me triple for journey there other taxis were ok,
Bankfield Museum in Ackroyd Park had a great centenary exhibition of Halifax in WW1 which included the impact across the various communities. The Duke of Wellingtons regiment history is also held there. Halifax is a place where I spent many holidays as a child but it is run down like many town centres in England today. It was great to use to get to Hebden Bridge and Haworth home of the Brontës.
Enjoyed discovering the old buildings and their history. The Borough Market building is well worth a wander. All in all Halifax centre is very compact and easy to shop in one day. The outdoor food stalls were amazing in Market St. Some really cool very old pubs worth nipping into......UPPER GEORGE, ROYAL OAK (large choice of proper beers), The OLD COCK (built in the 1500s), and finally The OLD POST OFFICE.
Halifax is a gem of industrial, and architectural heritage , look around look up and look down and despite some ugly modern interventions in the spirit of consumerism and business there are some wonders here all within easy walking distance. The Peice hall, Halifax Minster , the market ! the townscape in general as well as Eureka for the children and an industrial heritage museum. visit Shibden Park and Shibden House home of Ann Lister , a dry stone wall museaums !! And there are also aplenty of excellent pubs clubs and restaurants .
What a wonderful town! No offence, but so much better than our expectations. Some of the buildings would grace any European capital. The library is stunning as is the Town Hall and Minster. The market is well worth a visit. Shop windows and were beautifully decorated for Halloween creating a wonderful sense of cohesion and community. Piece Hall is magnificent- definitely a place to return to. Shibden Hall was closed for flilming of Gentleman Jack, but the grounds and exterior are superb. I wholeheartedly recommend a trip to Halifax!

The staff, particularly Jake were wonderful. He went out of his way to accommodate our daughter who has a nut allergy & is on the autistic spectrum, even offering her somewhere quieter to eat. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was beautiful and hosted a wonderful wedding with great food. We stayed in a snug room & it was snug but it was very comfortable and the breakfast was fab with salmon & scrambled eggs or a full breakfast being some of the options. Again, Jake was fantastic!

Our group arrived tired and weary after completing the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge and were welcomed by the cheery and friendly staff on reception who sorted our rooms and parking quickly. Rooms were comfortable. Bar area is modern and nicely decorated. All the staff at the hotel were fantastic throughout the duration of our stay. For the price, I would definitely recommend staying here if you find yourself in Halifax or nearby.

Lovely friendly owners welcomed us when we arrived. Room was on the small side but had everything I needed and was fantastic value so still an excellent deal. Definitely recommend staying here. Going out the back of the hotel to walk the dog and there was a lovely walk along old fashioned cobbles so got a brilliant feel of the historic old Halifax. Definitely would go back there again. Thanks Pearl :)

You ask were the eggs fluffy? In general the breakfast is good however the eggs made my wife feel sick - I suspect they are made of some powder mix?? In general the hotel is 'very acceptable' we booked it because it's cheap: and it's just a short walk from the town centre. In fact for anyone arriving at Halifax railway station it's just a couple of minutes walk

Great location for central Halifax. Excellent free wi-fi in rooms and enjoyed the breakfast selection. Helpful that front desk are available for people arriving after 10pm. On street and multi story parking nearby is useful. Loved the 'secret' staircase down to the Italian restaurant next door.
