We felt like at home. Breakfast was amazing, all cooked fresh to order with toast and fresh coffee and absolutely delicious! Sue, Alan (the hosts) and Wilf (their dog) were absolutely amazing. The room was lovely and clean and the bed was comfortable. Shops and pubs are in the nearest neighborhood.

The cottage was cosy and so quiet. A lovely welcome hamper which was enjoyed. The village is lovely with everything you need locally within walking distance. Great location for driving around, we went to the lake district one day then York on another, also drove around the nearby towns and villages, also we had a nice relaxing day in the cottage, ideal for a relaxing break. Easy and great communication with the host, hopefully return one day.

The area and scenery was lovely as were the surrounding...

The area and scenery was lovely as were the surrounding villages of Middleton in Teesdale and Barnard Castle. There are plenty of places to visit. The Low and High Force waterfalls with a walk along the River Tees was exceptional. A trip to Cow Green Reservoir for lovely walks in the Pennines is worth the drive.

A friend and I booked the Youth Hostel at Holwick at the very last minute, as the first stop on a road trip from London. It was easy to find, the welcome was warm, the accommodation very clean and comfortable, fellow guests charming and interesting, and glorious walks (to High Force and Gibson's Cave, for example) from the doorstep. All at an unbeatable price.
