Breakfast was great. Location was coinvent to shopping and local restaurants. Parking was a little hard. Public car park nearby, but had to get free ticket every hour till 5PM, then free all night. Out the next morning. Small town and able to get our clothes washed in a nearby laundromat.

During my recent visit to Orkney, I had the pleasure of staying at the Kirkwall Hotel. This historic property exceeded expectations on all fronts. Exceptional Staff: The staff at the Kirkwall Hotel were incredibly professional and supportive. Their attentiveness and willingness to go the extra mile made my stay truly memorable. From assisting with taxi arrangements to facilitating an extended stay due to a missed flight, their genuine hospitality was exceptional. Unmatched Location: The hotel's location is unbeatable. Situated in the heart of Kirkwall, it provides convenient access to a variety of amenities. Lidl, Tesco, restaurants, souvenir shops, and the magnificent Magnus Cathedral are all within easy walking distance. Historic Charm: The Kirkwall Hotel itself is a treasure trove of history. The corridors are adorned with captivating historic pictures, offering a glimpse into the past. A particularly delightful surprise was the beautifully preserved guest register dating back to 1948, adding a unique touch to the ambiance. Peaceful and Inviting: My room was impeccably clean and offered a serene atmosphere, free from any disruptive noise. The view of the harbor was an added bonus, providing a picturesque backdrop to my stay. Highly Recommended: The Kirkwall Hotel offers an exceptional combination of comfort, history, and exceptional service. Whether you're a business traveler or a leisure guest, this hotel caters to a truly enjoyable stay. I would highly recommend the Kirkwall Hotel to anyone visiting Orkney. Our visit to the Orkneys on our adventure through Scotland wasn't planned, but with a last minute booking we were lucky enough to be able to spend a couple nights at the wonderful Orkney Hotel! This historic inn far exceeded our expectations. We particularly loved spending the evenings in the bar tasting some of the literal thousands of bottles of whiskey decorating the walls. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the Scottish breakfast was delicious. I would highly recommend a stay at the Orkney Hotel on your next visit!

The location was good. The food was excellent. The rooms were comfortable. There was a lounge with games, sofas, and a large TV, but we were too busy to take advantage of it. Eric, the host, was very friendly and accommodating. He got us everything we asked for. The water was very soft, so only a small amount of soap or shampoo was needed. It didn't feel like we were intruding in someone's home. It felt more like a mini hotel with a fair amount of privacy for coming and going. Also, we had a ground floor room where we didn't have to drag suitcases up, which is hard being older adults. The stay was very enjoyable.

It is a delightful place, homey, comfortable, clean, loved the artwork and extra touches. It is located very close to heart of the city so we could walk most places. It is a perfect place to stay and take day trips to the amazing neolithic sites on Orkney. We were lucky to meet our hosts who were lovely and gave us all sorts of tips about Kirkwall and places to see.

Our favourite places in Toab were the lovely sandy beaches...

Our favourite places in Toab were the lovely sandy beaches which had an abundance of wildlife and flowers. We chose to eat at Sheila Fleet's Kirk cafe which had a choice of interesting dishes, but most importantly for us - a delicious vegan dish which we loved. The roads in Toab are easy to get around on and around every corner there are gorgeous views, little stone Orkney houses and fields of inquisitive cows! The wide open views of sea and sky are breathtaking, as are the gorgeous blues and turquoise colours that flood your senses.

This is a great location to explore the East Mainland of...

This is a great location to explore the East Mainland of Orkney. There are great beaches and coastal paths. We enjoyed walking along the coast from Dingieshowe beach and the spectacular Mull Head. We enjoyed visiting Sheila Fleet’s Kirk Gallery and cafe. Lovely gift ideas and delicious food. Deerness Distillery is also worth a visit as they make delicious gins.
