Walking around Yeovil is a bit like walking through a ghost town, so many places empty, shut down - gone. Several old hotels that no longer exist. Limited choice of decent places to eat without travelling outside in to the villages.
Town itself isn't much to write home about but there is a great country park very near by with great walks. The Butchers Arms is a great little pub worth visiting, plus a good "Coffee 1". The Wetherspoons is one of the least inviting I have been to (and I have visited about 100 over the years) and is in the run-down area of the town centre. There is the Fleet Air Arm Museum and a couple of National Trust properties nearby so Yeovil is a good location for reaching these.
Central for visiting other areas. Great walks in the country park. National Trust properties nearby. The International Motor museum is well worth a visit. A lot of shops in the town were vacant which is a shame but some good ones remaining.
We didn't pick this accommodation to visit Yeovil. It was central for us to visit friends in some of the outlying villages which were very pretty and with lovely scenery. Yeovil itself is not a particularly attractive town. Places nearby like Sherborne, Langport and Somerton were much nicer.
I had a lovely stay at the Mason Arms. The room was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed, I slept like a log. Very tasty breakfast and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I would thoroughly recommend staying at this property.
Cheap shopping centre......Primark, Weatherspoons.....very cheap beer and food...., lots of charity shops. Lots of bargains! Bit run down. Lots of sales. Lots of empty shops. Even an empty arcade. In contrast there was also a fully functional arcade and street with more expensive small shops including craft type outlets, coffee shops etc. Very nice surrounding country area with Sherborne, it’s Abbey, well kept old buildings, famous school, Castle etc.....a tourist attraction with much higher prices!...only 4 miles away. Such a lot of empty busses passing through Yeovil!
There were many aspects of the hotel that I really liked. The room was spacious enough, with a comfortable double bed, large bathroom containing a shower, small seating area and sofa...all of which made it undoubtedly good value for money, certainly exceeding my expectations as I only booked it two days prior at relatively late notice. Furthermore, the restaurant attached to the building was a real gem offering lovely food. Amenities like that are difficult to find in the Yeovil/Mudford area so it certainly killed two birds with one stone.
Yeovil
Room was nice and clean. TV was good, but the remote didn't work and once I had got undressed and into bed I din't want to get dressed again in order to go and ask for new batteries. With the room being situated away from the main hotel, there was no problem with noise, despite the hotel having a live music event that night.
Yeovil
Google maps nearly took us to the front door - except that it is in a pedestrianized street. Instead go to the Globe and Crown pub and drive through the car park opposite to get to the Green Door car park. Very cheap hotel - we had a suite for £60
Evening meal and breakfast were both excellent. Service in the restaurant was very good. Plenty of variation on the Menu's. All staff were friendly and very helpful. We would stay again at The Manor Hotel if in the area on another visit.
The guy on the reception desk was so nice and very helpful. He helped carry our luggage to our rooms. The hotel is very clean. We would recommend it if you're staying in Yeovil.
