Located in the traditional village of Dimitsana, Guest house Amanites offers rooms that combine both traditional and elegant features. Free WiFi is offered throughout. We loved everything in Amanites.First of all is Hara & Haris the lovely owners who run their guesthouse with so much care to their guests and professionally. We stayed for 3 nights in a room with a balcony viewing the beautiful mountains and village from the top. The place is very clean and cosy, feeling like home, comfortable beds, the best breakfast we ate in greece including homemade pies & cakes that Hara makes. After trekking 2 sections of the Menalon trail, my wife had sore muscles and we looked for a massage. It is not commom at the villages area and specially difficult at Covid time. Hara found for us resort in Nymfasia that gave us this service so we could continue trekking. She also gave us tips about the trail from Dimitsana and ordered for us taxi driver for the way back. Thank you for all, Hara & Haris We will send friends and hope to come back again to you in Arkadia !

Where do I start?! What a magical place. It is definitely worth a visit, both to stay and to tour. The town is romantic and fascinating. Great walks both in the town and in the surrounding areas. Very friendly and very reasonable prices. Will definitely be back.
Dimitsana came as a real suprise, (3 nights and 3 days in Mid October). There is plenty to explore: culture, history, hiking all 8 sections of the menalontrail.eu or just a section or short 45 minutes intervals, in splendid landscape and nature, thereby visiting 3 carved in rocks monasteries which preserved Greek culture during the 400 year long Turkish occupation and were pivotal hubs in the 1821 greek revolution, exploring the dimitsanalivingmuseum.gr, the open air water power museum, visiting the famous library, just strolling in the streets of Dimitsana, hanging out in the various cafes, tavernes, eating and drinking some wine and ouzo, shopping of greek food specialites, visiting neary Stemnitsa and or the site of Olympia on a day trip.......... Back in 1821 Dimitsana and the 3 monasteries were the hot spots of the greek revolution. The library, the adjacent school and the 3 monasteries were filled with very educated revolutionaires. Many of them and their decendents made a mark in Greek history as prime ministers, writers, shipping magnats or olympionics.... These days Dimitsana seems to mostly be visited by greek tourists, especially on the weekends. Families and couples on a romantic outing. It is definately a place to be put on the map for everyone who likes exploring the unexpected even for a day when coming from Nafplion or Athens or the beaches of the Peloponnes. Weather was quite mixed while visiting in Mid October, with sun and rain and mist. At night degrees sank to 8 to 10 degrees. Heating was provided.
There was a great a water museum just outside the village. Doesn’t look much but it’s very educational about village life in Greece and how they utilised the power of water . Also the fact that Dimitsana produced masses of saltpetre for the gunpowder needed for Greece to end the occupation by the Turkish in 1821. Worth a stop for about an hour 12 E entrance.
The place, as well as all the other villages surrounding it, is very well preserved, in order to maintain its traditional feel, but has modern facilities to maximize the comfort of anyone staying there. You get to walk around in small streets and find traditional and historical places to visit, but at the same time the shops are modern and "hip" inside. But even more important than that is the plethora of activities available for the outdoorsy folk, because, let's face it, if you are not the type, a long stay in the area might leave you bored, as it quiets down pretty fast as night falls (my experience, though). But for activities you have a range from trekking by the river, to rafting, to horse riding in the forest! It's an amazing environment to experience some peace and quiet and fill your lungs with clean air and your ears with nothing but bird chirps!!! DEFINETLY recommend
It's a small humble town, 2½ hours away from Athens by car, located in the middle of the mountains. Its limitations as a remote village is more endearing than inconvenient, even though there is quick access to nearby points of interest, like Stemnitsa, Vytina and for the earnest drivers, Ancient Olympia. Dining choices, all things considered, are very limited; there are only a few tavernas offering Greek cuisine and an all-day cafe serving sandwiches, pizzas and desserts. Absolutely recommended for couples looking for a quiet time in a humble, non-touristic town like Dimitsana.
Excellent center for walking the Menalon Trail. Fascinating local water-powered open air museum and the oldest library in Greece. As we were a bit out of season the menu offerings at the restaurants were limited and not particularly geared to vegetarians unless you are very keen on bean soup!
Dimitsana
Proselinos is in a stunning location overlooking Dimitsana with amazing views. Nikos contacted us the day before to give arrival instructions-which eere very clear- and helped with luggage. We had a lovely homemade breakfast of omelette, dakos and yoghurt/fruit the next morning. The beds were comfortable..the rooms aren't huge but then you are in a mountain village where space is limited. Its a couple of minutes walk to the centre of Dimitsana and about 5 minutes walk to a very good taverna.
Dimitsana
Everything was perfectly executed. Even though the check-hour was till 8 pm, the staff was pretty helpful and tenacious to wait for my arrival at 11 pm and to show me the room. The hotel's proximity to the center, it's one of its asset. The cosy room, the elegant and traditional decoration as well as the cleanliness made our stay excellent. Just keep it up, highly recommended.
Excellent stay here over Easter 2022. Booked for 2 days stayed for 4 days. Relaxed very pretty hotel with amazing views, hotel owner friendly, informative and very funny.
