Piraeus is a nice place to visit because it has very good connections to Athens. It is also a very vivid place and you can find somewhere to eat 24h and also there are kiosks 24h where you can buy things like cigarettes, ice-creams, magazines, newspapers, etc. It also has the port where you can go to the islands and is not very far and with good connections to Athens airport from where there are direct flights to numerous national and international destinations. It also has the Municipal Theatre and also there are numerous bars and restaurants in the area

Pireaus is old and shows its age, many buildings in poor shape with many empty. Villages along the coast prior to arrival in Piraeus from airport bus X96 have beaches, resorts higher standard accommodation and better commercial and residential areas. Recommend on Google map prior to visit and consider stay along the seaside before arriving in Piraeus itself. One can jump off airport bus X96 in many villages before Piraeus itself.
You can catch bus X96 to return to airport of catch other local buses to ferry and cruise Port.

Piraeus is a port, that's why you go there, to catch a ferry or a cruise ship. If you own a boat then it's a great place to purchase whatever you need. It's not a holiday place, it's where you catch your ferry to a holiday resort, it's very mutch a working town.

Very close to the ferries.
Very close to the ferries. Easy access to Athens centre by tram. Tain extremely close. The beach is close by. An easy walk to shopping districts . We had lunch at a little cafe close to our hotel. The people were friendly and even helped us make a hairdresser appointment. It is evident that the area is undergoing refurbishment.
Things are looking up!

The hotel is easy to find when you leave the metro station in Piraeus in the night (after a long flight to Athens airport). The hotel proved to have better standard than I expected. There seem to be a man in the reception all night, and almost no traffic noise could be heard in the room (#103). There is also short way from the hotel down to gate E7 in the harbour from where I took the Blue Star ferry next morning.
Located in the immediate vicinity of the port of Piraeus, Filon hotel is an extremely comfortable option if you are staying near the port. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they supplied us with basic information about connections to Athens, port gates, metro lines etc. The 24hour check in is a godsend. The rooms are clean, spacious, and fairly soundproof, and the breakfast was pretty good too.
Excellent boutique hotel.... polite helpful staff especially George.. while it may not be very close to the port, they offer a complimentary shuttle service. Certainly it's a great option to stay in Athens before proceeding onwards to the Cyclades
