Acropolis

Long before it became known as Bloomfield Falls, this magnificent waterfall was called Wujal Wujal by the indigenous Kuku Yalanji people. Hire a guide and learn why these people still consider Wujal Wujal to be sacred. Or just head down with your 4x4 and a picnic hamper, and have lunch in serious style!

A must to visit, it is climbable, I am 75 and with help from my daughter I made it to just before the top, I'm afraid of heights so didn't make the top with the crowds. Best time to go is 8am, our time was changed to 10am, due to a strike. If you are unable to climb the steps there is a cart that takes you to a lift which takes you to the top.

Go very early in the day, or very late, to avoid the huge crowds. Buy your timed tickets in advance, and they are separate from the museum. The museum is great, but there are several better collections in the center of Athens.

Nice to see but 30 euro is really too much for seing a few stones. Not much left of this area, like most temples of ancient Greece. We were a bit dissapointed. Greeks build an immage on the old history. A lot more labour of reconstruction could be done by escavating areas and putting the pieces together to look more like the original. Visitors should at least be permitted to walk inside the area of the temple.

Ancient wonder. It was a beautiful day when we visited the Acropolis. Majestic structure against blue skies. Tough parts of the monument is under renovation, the pathway for tourists was very well marked. People could walk around find the best photography angels and just soak in the history.

Roof terrace with hot tub is incredible and the view of Acropolis! We stayed in ground apartment that also has private courtyard with seating area and hot tub. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the city. To our pleasant surprise, there was virtually no traffic noise inside the room despite the very central location. The rooftop pool is a real highlight, offering a fantastic view of the Acropolis and the surrounding area; truly impressive. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, as there are plenty of great options nearby, so we cannot comment on that. Overall, it is an excellent location and a perfect choice for a short getaway to Athens.

This Hotel is in a great location in Athens - not too far from the Acropolis and is quite straightforward to get too from the airport. The staff are friendly, professional and make you feel welcome. The rooms are great value for the price as it is of a decent size and even has a private bathroom. They also offer breakfast for a small fee. Definitely recommended for anyone staying in Athens for a few days.

Having the Acropolis/Parthenon literally sitting in your hotel room from every corner is absolutely crazy right? Well The One Acropolis has exactly THAT, the Acropolis/Parthenon right in our room!!! This is the only way I can describe this hotel and the rooms (not rooms exactly, more like a whole apartment). This is my forever and ever stay when in Athens. I’m still trying to catch my breath with this phenomenal view.

Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.

If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!

Consider visiting Athens in May or September.

Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
