Acropolis

Long before it became known as Bloomfield Falls, this magnificent waterfall was called Wujal Wujal by the indigenous Kuku Yalanji people. Hire a guide and learn why these people still consider Wujal Wujal to be sacred. Or just head down with your 4x4 and a picnic hamper, and have lunch in serious style!

    Coming early is key.

Coming early is key. I visited in March (winter season) and by 10 am, there was already a crowd inside of the Acropolis, at the only path to the Parthenon. Fortunately the crowd was not large, but I'd say it was a bit large for this time of the year. As for the toilets, they are outside of the sight, and once you leave the sight, there's no re-entering it with the same ticket. So make sure to go to the toilet before entering the sight.

Magnificent. Go as early as you can to avoid the crowds. Hat, comfy shoes, and water are necessary. I went once around the spring festival and it was amazing. Everyone with flowers in their hair and celebrations everywhere. Visit the fabulous new museum after you have been to the Acropolis.

We only had 2 days in Athens and wanted to visit the Acropolis so the location of this hotel was perfect for us. The hotel is super clean and very friendly. Our room was modern and bright with a lovely bathroom and great shower! Found some amazing restaurants within 10-20 minutes walking of the hotel and it was a 10 minute walk to the Metro station for the tube back to the airport. Great value for money, breakfast was good and having the bar area and the rooftop terrace was a nice bonus. Would definitely recommend!

My experience at Alva Athens Hotel was fantastic. The room was beautifully decorated, spotless, and had a cozy, modern vibe. I really appreciated the attention to detail, from the lighting to the amenities. The location is very convenient, within walking distance of the Acropolis and other major attractions. The staff were always kind and professional, ready to help with anything I needed. It truly felt like a boutique experience. Highly recommended!

Perfectly situated in the heart of Athens, the hotel is within a 2-minute walk of the Temple of Zeus, tucked under the Acropolis, and near the National Garden. A rooftop restaurant adds evening atmosphere with panoramic views.

The apartment was exactly as shown in the photos beautifully decorated, spacious, and spotlessly clean. The location was perfect, just a short walk to the Acropolis and all the key spots in Athens. The host was incredibly kind and responsive, making sure everything went smoothly from the start. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches and how comfortable the place felt during our stay.

My partner and I decided to book this instead of a hotel and it was the best choice. The apartment was very neat, spacious, clean, and well equipped. Despite it being an apartment reception and daily cleaning was available and the host was great. The location was the best, the neighborhood was safe and it was a walking distance from all attractions that we want to see (5 minutes walk to acropolis and to plaka plus metro and tram). Would recommend definitely.

Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.

If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!

  • Consider visiting Athens in May or September.

Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
