Sweet Home Hotel, hotel in Athens

Located in the picturesque area of Plaka, the 2-star rated Sweet Home Hotel is 400 metres from Syntagma Square and the metro station. It features elegant accommodation and a bar.

We stayed at Sweet Home Hotel for three nights before going to the islands, and again for one night on our way home. I am so glad we chose this hotel and I would definitely stay here again. Easy and flexible check-in - we arrived in Athens at 3am, but it was no problem for us to check in at this time, the staff happily accommodated us. Kind, helpful staff - everyone we interacted with was friendly and always willing to help. It is a small hotel and definitely had a personal touch. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent breakfast - lovely variety of cooked and continental breakfast, lots of Greek pastries and if you want something more than filter coffee, they serve an excellent Greek coffee! Clean and comfortable room - we opted for the smallest size room (most economic), and while it is quite small (which we expected) it was perfect for us. Very comfortable bed, great aircon, and clean and modern bathroom. Location - we felt the location was perfect. It's a 5-10min walk to Syntagma Square (easy access to bus and metro to airport), and a 10min walk to the centre of Plaka and the Acropolis. It's on a quiet street, close enough to the touristy areas to have a nice vibe, but out of the hustle and bustle. On the same street there is a delightful restaurant, a cafe with great baklava and iced coffee, and a bakery with delicious bread and pastries.

The staff were all so friendly and welcoming! The friendliest we met in all of Athens. We had to check out prior to breakfast so they offered to box something up for us for our travels. So thoughtful! The rooms were spacious and clean and the location was excellent. And although we only stopped for drinks in the restaurant, it was a nice little place with reasonable prices.

    Beautiful!

Beautiful! In the heat its important you do it either early morning or evening. Factors ; Early morning first lot at 8am you have a good 30 mins roaming around with leas tourists Due to the fact that to get to Acropolis is uphill it makes it a bit easier before the heat increases. In the afternoon they might close it for some hours especially if there is a heat wave whihc in my opinion its only common sense :) Evening closer to sunset time breathtaking views!

The summer months are extremely busy and the weather is quite warm - I definitely recommend going to the Acropolis at the earliest opening time slot or the latest time slot. Also, there are not a lot of signs/or any signs really regarding where to queue. The queue for ticket holders may be confused as the queue for purchasing tickets. However, it IS the actual queue to get through the gates. The climb upwards may be a bit challenging for those who have mobility challenges so best to take care and assess before purchasing tickets.

    Buy the avoid-the-line pass.

Buy the avoid-the-line pass. Worth every penny even if you only use it one place. There are vending machines for water inside the gates. The only time I had to visit was midday, and it was HOT. Before 11 or after 5 would be less stressful on your body in the summer.

I decided to visit Acropolis around noon (in a begin of June month) and it proved to be a bad choice. The lines - to buy the tickets and to enter in - were incredible long while the day was very hot. In total, it took us 2h from the moment we got to the ticket line until we entered in Acropolis. If you are going in June, I would strongly recommend to go in the earlier morning (when opens) to avoid the long crowded lines and the heating of mid-day.

We visited Greece in mid-to-late May.

We visited Greece in mid-to-late May. The Acropolis was way too crowded even with a 9:00am entrance time to enjoy and explore in any meaningful way. By contrast, Delos, Epidaurus, Mycenae, and Delphi were much more memorable and less crowded when we arrived at these sites either by 9:30am or late afternoon. . . Even during shoulder season must arrive either before the sites are open or late in the day to avoid overcrowding by tourists.

Must line up first thing in the morning. Site opens at 8:00am, be there by 7:30 and you'll be the first one up. Head up the hill asap, you'll enjoy the sights with a few other people for 15mins before the crowds head up. Explore the other sites on your way down.

The hotel is located in the center of Athens and close by 5-10 mins walking to a lot of attractive places in the city, it has a fabulous view of the Acropolis, and the breakfast is exceptional, the room is big and spotless, and so is the bathroom, but the best of this hotel is its staff, surely I will recommend to my friends & colleagues and maybe will book there again on my next visit to Athens. I had a wonderful stay at this apartment in Athens. The location is fantastic, just about 1.5 km from the Acropolis, making it very convenient for sightseeing and exploring the city. The host was excellent, very accommodating and responsive. The apartment itself was very clean and well-maintained, which made for a comfortable stay. Communication with the host was smooth and efficient. I would love to stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

What a lovely apartment right in the centre of Athens. Very close to Monastiraki metro but is walkable to all the amenities and attractions. Beautifully presented and with a gorgeous view of the acropolis. The terrace is huge and just what we needed! We were so lucky the apartment was available at short notice. Our flight got cancelled that evening and we needed a place to stay for 2 nights; so happy we booked this place! Vangelis was also super helpful and responsive and gave some great recommendations too.

The view of the Acropolis is spectacular. I would recommend this hotel and splurge on the suite room with a view for sure. The room is extremely spacious. Love the smart TV with access to Netflix and other apps. Nice amenities with robe and slippers and coffee. Location is excellent - much of touristy Athens is within walking distance.Staff are very friendly. I'm putting this in the like section - the church bells. It made for a nice morning alarm clock and added an authentic touch to my stay.

The apartment is comfortable, clean, has everything you need for a stay in Athens. Its location is perfect, close to Merto station which takes you to the Acropolis. Our goal was to visit the Acropolis. It has a romantic terrace that overlooks the Acropolis in the distance, but it's nice to see it, especially in the evening. There are air conditioners in every rooms, which is very important for Greece in the summer 🙂. I recommend this apartment if want to see Athens.

Hard to say this is a hostel! They have the same confort of a hotel with the cool vibe of a hostel, we loved it. We booked a family room since the double room was fully booked and we didn’t regret it. Close to the subway and restaurants, 20 min walking distance to the acropolis. Staff is very friendly. Everything was clean. Our room was very quiet. They have a restaurant with good options and we get a discount.

I was very surprised as this is the first time We used apartments rather than hotels for our family holiday. Very comfortable and well equipped. They even filled a jug of water and ice and had it in the Fridge for us. Excellent location right by the ring road around the acropolis (10 min walk) and Monastiraki (15 min walk). Opposite the apartment are two pharmacies and well stocked supermarkets. Metro is 10 mins away too

Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.

If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!

  • Consider visiting Athens in May or September.

Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
