It was very laid back, relaxing and the people were really friendly. I would recommend staying in the old town, lots of restaurants and easy access to boat hire.
If you had a car you would be able to explore a bit further a field but we just enjoyed relaxing locally.

Rovinj is a stunning historical place.
Rovinj is a stunning historical place. I thoroughly enjoyed my 9 night visit.
The main negative point are the buses. There is NOT a bus travelling directly between Pula Airport and Rovinj. The internet report saying that there is was pre-covid. You have to travel first to Pula and then catch the local bus to Rovinj. Coming back to the airport was very frustrating. The first two buses are 4.40am and then 8.00am. I decided to leave on the 4.40am bus to make sure I got my flight. When I got to Pula I found that the first shuttle bus to the airport was at 9am. I got a taxi instead of waiting over 4 hours. 25 euros compared to 6 on the shuttle bus.
I also used the bus to visit Porec. On getting there there were only two buses coming back to Rovinj at 3pm and 9pm. Not very helpful.
If you are happy driving abroad it would be much better to hire a car.
Bikes were for hire for 12 euros a day.
There are hundreds of places to eat in Rovinj. You won't find any difficulty choosing one. The main two I frequented were La Riva on Carera ( waterfront ) and Pizzeria Stari Grad ( a quaint little courtyard that serves superb pizza's )
I managed to walk around Rovinj ok despite hurting my hip the day before travelling there. There are lots of cobbled stones to walk on that some people might have problems with. It is also quite hilly.
If you are going on a boat trip I would strongly recommend the 3 swims tour on the boat Adrian. A superb meal is cooked by the captain whilst you explore an island or swim.
The best beach in the area is Mullini Beach. This is very posh with sunbeds galore. I preferred the seclusion of the nudist rocks further south on the headland. There are several safe places to get into the water from the rocks. Most people had shoes on to avoid sea urchins. I didn't but was ok.

Rovinj is such a pretty, characterful place to visit.
Rovinj is such a pretty, characterful place to visit. Lots of cobbled streets with charming places to eat and drink and a picturesque harbour. The area was clean with lots of floral displays and to make it even better there is very limited traffic.
We are in a few places on the harbour front and surprisingly found the food and drink better value than in the back streets for similar quality. We stayed at the Adriatic Hotel which was exceptional.

For us this was some relaxing time spent in rovinj during a road trip of Europe so we were not looking to do a huge amount whilst here. The old town is beautiful to wander around & the church & clock tower up on the hill. There are lots of restaurants to sit outside by the sea/harbour for coffee & meals. Pula is about 40 mins away & apparently very nice to visit so will do that on our next visit to Rovinj. Plenty if options for panoramic boat tours & dolphin spotting tours.
We took the little tourist train that trundles around the area but wouldn't actually recommend this as it is one way & much too far to walk back, and we are walking people. Plus the destination was just a holiday complex - nothing to see or do there so it was all rather disappointing. But the driver was great - we didn't actually say we were disappointed but he didn't accept our payment for the return journey.
Aparment is very spacious, so it perfectly fits our family of four and we really felt very comfortable staying there.
Special thanks to the owner Mladen, for all his kindness and recommendations (where to have lunch, where to eat best sweets in the town, where to go and what to visit on a rainy day, where to rent bicycles etc).
We like the location as well - on walkable distance from the city center (old town) and also from the park and the beach.
Cleanliness of the apartment is on high level.
We really loved the place. It is located in the center of the Old town, they have a transfer service from their parking space (i do recommend to book it in advance). Hotel staff extremely kind and breakfast was international and very abundant. Our room was facing the street but during night time wasn't noisy at all.
We had beautiful seaside view even if we were at 1st floor.
Very nice hosts. They were in touch all the time, helped with everything necessary. Maria is a very friendly and kind woman. The apartment is spacious, two bathrooms, one small and one large balcony. We had enough dishes and equipment. A good option for a large family or company. About 15-20 minutes to the old town, 13-15 minutes to the beach. We recommend.
