It is a relaxed city. We loved Senshu koen with it's gardens, ponds and shrines. There is great shopping and cafes around the station area and a cheap tourist loop bus covers most of the city starting from in front of the station. Tourist information at the station was extremely helpful. We took a trip to Sentai Hoshika just outside of the city. It was a little tricky to get to by bus but worth the visit for serenity and beauty. We met some very pleasant people and had some wonderful meals at Osteria restaurant at the Richmond Hotel and Icinotori Bataten
We enjoyed what we saw, the weather was perfect and Senshu Park was beautiful and about 5 minutes walk. We would have liked to go to Aoyagi Samurai house but for the time we had available it was a bridge to far.
Staff at JR Tourist information : amazing and helpful. Recommend a quick trip to Namahage Museum and show and a visit to the living village next door. only need an hour or so. need to take jr to namahage and book shuttle taxi online by 9pm night before...search namahage shuttle. a bit expensive 1000 yen each way plus about 1200 yen for museum and show entry. helps to understand regional culture.also a great day walking around nyuto onsen village.take jr to tazawako, then shuttle no 1 bay to nyuto onsen. can walk between onsen. We also made the effort to arrange the shuttle from alpa komakusa to the famous tsurunoya onsen but was very disappointed and felt it was a waste of time : just stay at nyuto longer is better. ganibi, taenoyu were best.
We were travelling North up Honshu in Spring and caught the best Sakura in Akita. We also fluked a Sakura festival, which was great. We only had one day in the city and would have preferred an extra couple for a better look around.
We went to visit Seitai Hoshikai (Church of Lady Akita) in Yuzawa by bus. The map and information given by the Tourist Information staff at the station was very informative and clear, so we don't have any difficulties at all. There are loop bus also around the city, it is very convenient travelling in Akita city.
The castle grounds are fantastic, varied and interesting. There are a lot of excellent, small restaurants around. One of the best day trips, Kakunodate, is a couple of stops on the Shinkansen and is an old Samurai stronghold with very old and well- preserved houses.

- Hosts were very friendly, we wished we could’ve spent more time with them. Same as other reviews have said, it feels like staying with family. - Most. Comfortable. Futon. Ever. Oh my goodness, I slept wonderfully. Bed was comfortable too. - Spacious area to relax with a table and TV. We enjoyed chatting and watching some TV before bed here. - We had our own sink/toilet area to share amongst ourselves connected to the one bed area. - Very cute dog named San :)

The cooling system worked well. They had blankets already in the room as an alternative to the heavy comforter. The room had a nice view and was quiet. There is a restaurant attached. We did not order breakfast.
Breakfast was buffet style and well stocked. Located just a few minutes walk from the train station. Room was reasonably sized. There was a Japanese style bath on the lobby floor.
The hotel is a few minutes walk from the station, so close shops and restaurants. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I really enjoyed using the public bath.
It is near to Akita Station. The rooms are spacious n clean. There are many shops around the hotel for shopping.
Away from the train station so more of a business hotel than a tourist hotel. Near good restaurants
Decent business style hotel and very central. Station is 1 minute away. Breakfast was pretty good.
