We visited Kurashiki for a couple days while attending a friends wedding. It was absolutely amazing - just like all of our travels across Japan have been. We loved exploring the old town area and all the shops and dining there was offered around the central area. The train station was very convenient and easy to navigate.
Kurashiki was a pleasant surprise. Larger than I expected. Very authentic traditional Japanese town with real attention given to the overall aesthetics. Seems they really made an effort to keep tacky Japan outside of the Bikkan area. An under appreciated gem. Very few restaurants stay open for dinner?!!
It has a few charming streets; you can walk through the entire historic district (slowly) in a couple of hours. Ok as a couple of hour stop on the way to somewhere else but would never recommend it as an overnight destination.
A really cute little town. Don't bother spending the night though; there's really only a few hours worth of stuff to see and it's kind of boring at night. The Ohara art museum is fantastic. The Kuore hostel is a good place to stay, with a good cafe.
I saw a gray heron stalk and catch a fish for dinner as I took a sunset walk on arrival. On my way out in the morning a crowd of journalists, neighbors and moms taking their kids to preschool gathered to oooh and ahhh at a the newly hatched baby swans. Kurashiki Bikan district is a peaceful haven an easy walk from a major station, easy to make a short visit or overnight stay.
The sights in Kurashiki itself can be covered in a day or less, but it makes a great base for exploring surrounding areas, and is probably more pleasant to stay in than nearby Okayama. Convenient access to Shimane and Shikoku

This hostel is conveniently located close to Kurashiki Station. Check-in was fast and staff are very friendly as if they were your friend. They do not shy away from conversing despite me having limited Japanese language skills. The bed itself is comfortable enough to sleep with despite the mattress being a bit too thin. The toilets and shower rooms are clean and spotless. Drip coffee is also good. I definitely recommend this hostel for those who plan to stay overnight in Kurashiki/Okayama.

Everything! The staffs are super friendly, and they are willing to help you with anything. The location is right inside the Bikan historical center, which I think easily makes up 90 percent of the whole Kurashiki experience. The breakfast is a traditional japanese dish where you mix raw egg with rice and soy sauce. I know it doesn't sound that good but believe me, it's delicious!

I liked everything about it. Cuore Kurashiki is what I want a property to be. Cozy, convenient, a little funky on terms of atmosphere. The cafe/ bar was as comfortable as and I have ever been in. And definitely get the Western style breakfast. Both of the ones I enjoyed were excellent. I really liked Cuore Kurashiki and would definitely stay there again if in Kurashiki.
