Strategically located. Just stones away from the JR train station, bus stop to Kawaguchiko and Tokyo Shibuya. Hotel's staff are nice and nice view of the city on the top floor where they serve breakfast. Room is decent size and clean
My favorite city in Japan. Easy access to the mountains for hiking and skiing or snowboarding. The city art gallery is a must see as is the clock musuem. Lots of independent cafes, bars and shops as well as the large mall which has very an excellent supermarket. A walk around the castle at night is the perfect way to end a day there.
Matsumoto is the gateway to Japan Northern Alps. Stay at Mastumoto and travel to Azumino Daiwasabi farm, Kamikochi, Takayama, Norikura. Try local food oyaki and Soba noodles. Rent a cycle and roam around Matsumoto city.
I stayed in Matsumoto for two days and one night. It was a lovely short stay, but probably could've stayed a bit longer so I could sample local cuisine and attractions at a more leisurely pace. Overall, as a solo traveller, this trip was just right. I stayed towards the end of January, which is during off-season. Due to this, some attractions and transport were limited but I was still able to have a good time. The weather was splendid, with some snowfall but also plenty of clear skies. I loved Matsumoto castle, and they actually provided free tours there! That was excellent, and I got lots of photos and historical context. I ate at Miyota, a local restaurant to try the local delicacies of "Basashi" (raw horse meat) and "Toji Soba" (broth-soaked soba noodles). It was absolutely fantastic and I certainly recommend it.
Great city with great historical treasures.. A great place to visit if you are a buff with history, tradition and culture of the Japanese people. The only downside is that it is hard to find a non-smoking restaurant near the station.
Good for cycling, running and out door pursuits. Close to mountains. The town is nice lots of bars and restaurants. Not so fun for driving the roads are always clogged. Plus a lot roads leading to the mountains are tolled. Very bad policy. Japan’s toll roads are a total scam, and way way to expensive. Lucky for the greedy politicians in Japan, that they rule over such a compliant, and easily scammed population of people. People from most other nations would rise up against all the taxes Japan imposes on its people. And really the government gives very little in return for all of takes.
Matsumoto
Great experience, awesome place to stay if you want to stay in a authentic ryokan. They if you get in contact they will pick you up from Matsumoto train station and take you to the property and then next day drop you off at kamakochi. If your a fussy eater you will not like it here / go hungry as there’s no western food and even no option what you want to eat. I found the traditional meals good but had to try it once. The onsen was also one of the best. Great experience
Matsumoto
This ryokan was low cost, and the room was basic but clean. Our building had shower rooms, and in the annex building was a traditional Japanese bath. The ryokan has many stairs, steps and small corridors :-). The staff was friendly and helpful, and we could use the bicycles to go downtown and to the Matsumoto castle. The ryokan is about a 20 minute walk from the station, and is located in a quiet neighbourhood close to a river.
Convenient location with parking slot at fair charge. Assuming that it is freely drive in and out of the car park within effective hours. Remember go to the Reception Desk of the hotel to get details and a map of appointed car park. Souvenirs, wine and Nozawana Wasabi Tsuke , could be shopped at the nearby supermarket , or at the Matsumoto station.
The hotel was newer and the rooms were clean. I especially liked choosing a pillow and our own yukata to wear in the onsen. The onsen was also nice. Breakfast was good, nothing too exciting. The location was fairly close to the train station and very close to the bus station. There is a really good French restaurant next door!
Location near, but not close enough to be affected by tain noise, Matsumoto station. Convenient parking one block behind the hotel. My wife enjoyed breakfast; I was unimpressed. Staff were courteous and friendly. Room was clean and the bathroom was decent sized.
Matsumoto
The ryokan was beautiful and very peaceful. It was raining that day and so we stayed in our room and relaxed. The bus gave easy access to the main sights (the castle) and the main station. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, not to mention patient.
I chose this hotel as it was close to Matsumoto Castle and not one of the usual chain hotels. Breakfast was very good and my room was quite spacious for one person. The hotel also has a public bath, which is relaxing when it’s not too crowded.
The hotel is very close to Matsumoto station. The clean room was comfortable. We got a recommendation from the staff for an excellent soba restaurant close to the hotel. In addition, we got a voucher for a 10% price reduction for this place
Very new hotel in Matsumoto, Nagano. So the room we stayed at was so clean and tidy with a very clean private bath/toilet room. Staffs were quite supportive and we saw that they were trying their best to satisfy cutomers.
Near the JR station, just walk 3mins and no need cross the road! The opposite side of hotel is Alpico plaza, it have the Matsumoto Kiyoshi and 100yen shop inside here. Will visit again :)
It’s conveniently located right beside Matsumoto Castle, and just a 10-15min walk from the train station. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, recommended many attractions.
This hotel is within walking distance to the train station, as well as, the attractions within Matsumoto. The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was convenient.
Proximity to the train station and Matsumoto Castle. The onsen on the 7th floor was a sloce of heaven.
It's very near Matsumoto train station, bus station and many restaurants. many

Absolutely loved our stay here. The staff were all fantastic, super friendly & helpful, kindly organising our ski hire & lessons. Location was amazing & directions spot on. Was an absolute gem of a find & had amazing onsen & beautiful walks around the guesthouse.
Matsumoto
The hotel has a very nice restaurant and a convenience store/souvenir shop. It's very easy to get extra warm clothes and food there. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Matsumoto
Great staff and service, the facility and the mineral water are amazing, the nature also. We really enjoied our stay. I would recommend this hotel to my friends.
