Walkable from the train station. The facilities were so beautiful and offered many amenities. The room was new, well furnished, with an excellent bathroom and shower. We booked the private onsen for 4000yen for 45 minutes which was fantastic. The breakfast buffet had a lot to choose from as well. Walkable to the historic areas and after a long day you get to enjoy the lobby bar which gives free drinks with a privilege booking.

Very comfortable room, amazing amenities - I loved the tea and coffee selection, as well as the beautiful ceramic tea set available, and having bath salts ready in the bathroom was a pleasant surprise. Great location, helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are bigger than standard japanese hotel rooms which was nice. The bathroom was particularly spaceous with a great storm shower. Great views over the city, including lovely sunsets from the south facing side rooms.

It was a long drive up the Noto Peninsula and we had to drive along a narrow road through a short stretch of forest before we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful facade of the hotel. The entire stay was a pampering experience. The view from the room was amazing. Both dinner and breakfast were exquisitely prepared and served in private rooms. We had a 50 min private bath which was extremely soothing. There were small zen gardens, libraries in a corner, and cupboards full of yukatas of different colors and designs. These were very pleasant to the eyes. I also liked how courteous and attentive the hotel staff were.

The room was nice. Two couples and each had separate bathroom. The cabin gave us time to spend together and planned the next few days itinerary. The location was 7 minutes away from the mall, so even when we didn't book dinner, the staff told us that we could head to the mall to have dinner. The mall was decorated with Xmas decor, very romantic. It was fun to walk there and somehow it had firework on Saturday evening, what a surprise. Note: food court closed at 7:00 pm sharp. The facility is beautiful for us and had different wildlife to observe. We all had a great time!

This is such a special ryokan, right on the river and overall it was a wonderful experience. There are multiple onsens to choose from. The ryokan food took us out of our comfort zone, and we tried Japanese dishes we never would have otherwise. The staff were all very helpful which added to making our stay pleasant. Make sure you arrive right on the check in time to make the most out of your stay or even better - opt to stay two nights! :-)

It’s clean, very well equipped with heater, cooking utensils. The owners are so nice and friendly. Language may be a barrier but they tried really hard to accommodate all our needs. The place is slightly secluded which is perfect for quiet vacation but you can still go to town centre by just taking 1 train to Karuizawa station and the owners are nice enough to drop and pick you!

There aren't that many things to see and do in Nagoya but...

There aren't that many things to see and do in Nagoya but you can also travel easily to Gifu city. There are probably three or four days worth of activities that you can complete in the area, any longer and you will run out of interesting things to do. The Gifu Great Buddha is a large Buddhist statue located in Shōhō-ji Temple in Gifu City. It is very close to the cable car entrance to Gifu castle up on the mountain, which is also well worth visiting but the keep at Nagoya castle is closed so don't expect too much from a visit there. The large Shirotori garden in Gifu is also worth a visit. The observation deck on the 46th floor of Midland Square, the tallest building in Nagoya, is amazing!

Great walkable town with distinct districts and far less crowds than Kyoto. We enjoyed our Ninja-dera tour, exploring the samurai and Higashi Chaya districts, visiting the garden, and sampling delicious Japanese and Western food. The market was a delight to see all the fresh seafood!

Takayama is gorgeous.

Takayama is gorgeous. It’s the getaway you didn’t know you needed until you get there! A walk to the river and around the old town area is sublime. Start with one of the morning markets along the river, a coffee or matcha with a view and a leisurely stroll through neighbourhoods, shopping streets, temples and shrines. It is all very walkable. But if your feet say otherwise, catch the loop bus for 100 yen and make your way back. Also take the train up to Hida Furakawa(about a 15 minute ride) where the koi fish swim through small canals in the street and every corner you turn is a new discovery. One of the most peaceful towns ever. You can also take a 9 minute bus ride to the Hida Folk Village to get a sense of the history and life of the Hida area. Oh, and don’t forget to try the Hida beef. It is truly a spiritual experience. So many choices but I recommend the place which is part of a butcher’s shop.

We were only in Fujikawaguchiko for 24 hours - spent almost...

We were only in Fujikawaguchiko for 24 hours - spent almost entirely at our hotel - and we were disappointed we had not allotted more time for sightseeing. It is a beautiful city situated on a lake with spectacular views. Next time we will rent bikes and ride around the lake and visit the museum.

We initially planned to stay only a night in Matsumoto and...

We initially planned to stay only a night in Matsumoto and directly go to Kanazawa the next day but we ended up staying a whole day in Matsumoto, going from temples to shrines to emples, meeting lovely people like Haruki (hopefully I remembered his name correctly...) who recently opened Ko-Hi-ya ISAMI, a small bar/cafe in front of a generous bakery in the Nawate Shopping Street. He was very lovely and we discussed for a while. One of the greatest experiences of our trip so far!

Wonderful stay at Owara View Hotel!

Wonderful stay at Owara View Hotel! All the staff and the owner were very kind, helpful, and professional. The hotel management was excellent, and everything was well organized. The breakfast was very delicious with good variety. The rooms were very clean, spacious, and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to everyone visiting the area. Thank you for the warm hospitality!

We stayed in Niigata for nice two weeks and had a very comfortable visit. Next time we will include Sado Island but want to stay overnight there for several days. The bus and train system was very easy to take daily side trips all over. The huge Kyowa Car and Life Museum at Tsubame Sanjo was an unbelievable hidden gem!

Definitely visit Sumpu castle and the observation deck on the 21st floor of the prefectural office. Maps lists another observation deck in the city hall to the south but that doesn’t seem to still exist and would be four floors lower if it did. If you like nature at all be sure to hit up Miho no Matsubara for a lovely beach, a beautiful pine grove, and great views of Mt Fuji if the weather permits. Be aware that the restaurants at that location are open on an odd schedule or something, so maybe eat near the train station.

There's a lot to do in this area: lakes, hiking, good restaurants, amusement parks, cabins in the woods with BBQ, cabins on the lake, camping, hot springs. This is my third time and we'll be back.
