Location of hotel is amazing, the station is nearby. The staff was super nice and English was not a problem. Room was huge and had all the things you need, what was strange that they didn't offer pyjamas which is normal to have in each hotel which I visited in Japan. Breakfast was fabulous I had to order it as extra though it was worth it it had Japanese, western kitchens everything that you need. You can find a lot of food places near by. I will book this hotel again if I will come back to Kanazawa.

Location is 10-15 minute walk from the Takayama station, which is convenient when you are doing day trips to the nearby attractions. I stayed with my 74 and 78 year old parents, and the walk was doable. The hotel has a free shuttle from the station which we used when we arrived and when we left due to the bags, other than that, we walked to the station. The city center however, is a bit of a walk (25-30 mins) which was not doable with my parents, so we had to pay for taxis, which are expensive in Takayama, so just keep that in mind. If i had been there with other ppl my age, i would have not mind the walk.. Food: Their restaurants were closed by 8:30, and so do most restaurants in Takayama, so make sure you (1) reserve wherever you want to go because most rests go off of reservations and (2) eat before 8pm or you will go to bed with an empty stomach. Breakast was pricy but if you are looking for something more than bread and coffee at the bus station before your tours, wake up early and might be worth the price. Facilities: Very well maintained, very clean, staff was very helpful. Onsen was AWSOME, super clean, multiple "jacuzzies", 2 indoor, 2 outdoors, SUPER relaxing. They are free of use between 3pm and 10pm and have everything you need such as hair treatments, hair dryers, etc. They have a sauna, multiple showers, and overall, it felt luxurious and comfortable. We had a massage which I believe was relatively cheap ($30 USD) for one hour and it was a very therapeutic one, although it is not on a closed room spa, which was okay for the price. Rooms: They are spacious, futon beds are comfortable, they are warm so you don't have to worry about heating it up when you return from your day trips. The staff will set up your futon bets at 7pm, unless you ask them to be earlier.

We stayed in the Modern Suite with Barrel Sauna, right in the front row with an absolutely stunning view of Mt. Fuji. The design and layout of the hotels property are beautiful. Even just walking between the villas is a lovely experience. The villa has a slightly unusual layout – you enter through the bedroom – but it’s not a big deal. Once you step into the kitchen and out onto the terrace, nothing else matters in front of Mt Fuji. The sauna is fantastic – it heats up in just a few minutes. The outdoor tub next to the sauna is meant only for a cold dip after the sauna – it doesn’t have hot water The staff were extremely kind and welcoming.

Staying in ryukan is a must of my trip to Japan and Arai Ryukan doesn't make me disappointed. Starting from the location of the ryukan which is very easy to reach. You get off to check in and the staff will bring your car to the parking. Checking in is my first impression. The staff is willing to answer your questions and will show you all facilities available. You will have your own personal caregiver. The dinner and breakfast are included in the price and they are very excellent. The onsen both indoor and outdoor are the unforgettable experience. The town attractions are located within the walking distance..

The staff spoke good english and were extemely helpful. The food included in the half board price served in private dining areas was amazingly well presented traditional Japanese food. That looked and tasted out of this world. Some of the best food we had on our trip to Japan and we stayed in several expensive Ryokan. Lovely private or public outdoor onsen or in a subterranean cave. The Noto peninsular is still recovering from the earthquake of Jan 2024 and the terrible flooding in Sept 2024 but a trip there is well worthwhile to see the scenery and see how well the repairs are progressing

Had the most incredible stay at Satoyama Jujo. My wife and I were visiting Japan and in search of a nature retreat from Tokyo for a few nights, and this resort exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The room was quiet and serene, the baths had stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and the food was impeccable. The service was so thoughtful as well; on our last day we were snowed in and couldn't get back to Tokyo, but the hotel made sure we could extend our reservation one night and offered a complimentary taxi to the train station the next day. Hope to be back again one day!

This was a wonderful hotel and I would go back in a flash. It is right on the beach. We were there in February so the pool was closed but the onsen was open. Went there in the morning and last thing in the evening. The rooms are nice and big. Try and get a seaside facing room to enjoy the beach and the rising sun. The staff were friendly. All in all a great experience. Also there is a free shuttle bus to Kawazu town but there is also a train station near the hotel.

It’s clean, very well equipped with heater, cooking utensils. The owners are so nice and friendly. Language may be a barrier but they tried really hard to accommodate all our needs. The place is slightly secluded which is perfect for quiet vacation but you can still go to town centre by just taking 1 train to Karuizawa station and the owners are nice enough to drop and pick you!

Nice old shopping streets. Visited Shirakawa Go on the bus, easy transport from bus station, recommend you book the bus day before as gets busy. Journey takes an hour each way. Good wagyu beef meal at Suzuya restaurant, check opening times. Also Eviltex burger restaurant was nice, Did a walk above the town, passing through lots of temples. Takayama is easy to get around, not a big town.

Efficient connectivity from Tokyo Station by Shinkansen and the bus that take us from Nagano Station to Hakuba Valley. Not sure why we can't book the bus ticket online prior to our departure as uncertainties like this especially during high session always make me nervous. Allow plenty of time to arrive at Tokyo Station to orientate yourself, we learnt first time that you have to insert two tickets into the slot. On our return we purposely left Hakuba a bit earlier to spend time at Nagano Station that has gourmet dessert shops, delicious takeaways food and even fashion items. Hakuba is charming and as non-skiers I had the opportunity to do snowshoeing into deep forest to see the back mountain. Plenty of good food, my favourite is the food truck that sells Wagyu Rice, Calico Burger with their bbq burger and of course the institutional Lawson

Nagano was incredible. It was a gateway to a magical wonderland. We didn't ski but we're still able to enjoy visiting shrines, temples and indulge in local cuisines. Having proper such as microspikes and/or snow shoes at Togakushi Shrine is a must in the winter.

My tip - get there early!

My tip - get there early! We managed to get there early enough when there was a decent amount of tourists, but not a massive swarm that made it hard to move and see (for the short ones in our group). Please tourists, abide by the rules - it was sad to see some people had ignored the no food/drink signs. Be warned if you have a pram - you have to leave it at the bottom of the stairs and there's still a long walk ahead. Be warned if you're not sure of your footing and you're there in the depths of winter and it's a little icy - we saw two people hit the ground hard, and many more did the ol' Risky Business slide and recover. While we didn't use crampons, but they were available from the last shop before you enter the trail. Worth seeing, even if a little weird with the snow monkeys just ignoring you as they move about amongst you. We didn't see them when there was any snow on the ground/pool, which would probably make it more magical.

The city is a castle town with a 600 year old castle that you can actually go inside and up to the top. You can experience Japan's past as well as nature that you can enjoy with hiking during the spring, summer and fall as it is surrounded by mountains. Bus transportation is available from the Bus terminal about a block away from the JR train station, up into the mountains.
