Super clean hotel, very friendly staff. You have to leave your shoes at the entrance which adds to the cleanliness. You get a comfortable gown/outfit in your room as well as toe-socks. You can get free drinks in the evening and complimentary soba noodles at night. A pleasant suprise for us after a long day of traveling and exploring.

Love the location which is right in the middle of beautiful and well kept old town of Narai. The hotel is beautiful with the paths through the gardens to each unit. Each unit also has its privacy and provided relaxing and comfy atmosphere. The meals are great as well and really enjoyed it especially local ingredients were used in cooking the meals.

We absolutely adored our time at this hotel. So charming, classy and warm! Staff were all amazing and polite. Carried our suitcase to our room, held on to our key when we left for the day. The hotel itself is stunning. Yes, some may consider it dated, but I believe this only adds to its charm. I wouldn’t change a thing! The grounds are absolutely beautiful. We visited in early December and were lucky enough to wake up to snowfall one morning. Absolute winter wonderland! The church on the grounds is especially gorgeous. They have an incredible bar open in the evenings serving trendy cocktails. If you are a fan of the show Terrace House you may recognise one of the bartenders ;) Special shout out to a staff member named Steve / Yang from Finland. He was one of the funniest people we met on our trip. We had some great chats with him and he drove us to the train station after check out! Give him a raise, he’s awesome! Overall, we loved our stay here and we will definitely be back in the future!

Stayed here for 6 nights for a ski holiday and we had to change room half way through as I booked late and they were fully booked. Lovely staff they moved our stuff to the new room which meant we could go out for the day to enjoy skiing. Location isn't in the centre of town which wasn't a problem. There is a shuttle bus to the ski resorts, if you don't have a car. We did have a car which made it really easy. Onsen was lovely after a full day's of skiing. There was a ski rental shop opposite the hotel which was convent. We had breakfast and dinner included one of the waitresses called June was super friendly and very welcoming. Was a joy to see her everyday.

It’s clean, very well equipped with heater, cooking utensils. The owners are so nice and friendly. Language may be a barrier but they tried really hard to accommodate all our needs. The place is slightly secluded which is perfect for quiet vacation but you can still go to town centre by just taking 1 train to Karuizawa station and the owners are nice enough to drop and pick you!

The room was fantastic. My kids found it absolutely magical. The gift shop on site was full of really lovely gifts and treats. The staff were very respectful and professional. The room was so well catered to children. Even child sized bathroom facilities available and a thermometer for the bath water. My children were able to experience an onsen in the privacy of our own room.

The staff were incredibly helpful from way before our arrival helping us plan the best route there from Tokyo and even afterwards helping me in finding a missing item I left on a bus in the area. They went above and beyond. The rooms were spacious, quiet and clean and they had shuttles to the ski lifts which were very easy to use and not too far from the town for restaurants.

My family and I went there to have a short vacation during our long weekend holiday. The surroundings were quiet and beautiful. I saw some deer during my morning walk in the forest. The skies looked amazing at night. If you are tired of the hustle and bustle in the city, it’s a great place to get yourself refreshed. Hope we have a chance to visit there again.

Matsumoto is a smaller city and perfect location for first time visitors to Japan who want to experience the beauty of the Japanese mountains. Hiking areas can be reached quickly by the local train. There are less tourists in this area so it is a good place to immerse yourself in Japanese culture.

A really nice city with spectacular mountain views surrounding it. Excellent public transport so easy to get out and about and see some of the other places in the local vicinity. There were some lovely bars and restaurants so I'd highly recommend exploring and finding the hidden gems that are there. If you are in Nagano you must try Oyaki which is a local food only found in Nagano province. I still miss it every day.

Definitely need to come back to this city. We missed the hike to Happo Pond because the trail was temporarily closed for a week, and the weather was a bit cloudy during our stay following the typhoon. Even so, the city was incredibly peaceful and beautiful. I absolutely loved every moment here and can't wait to return.

We were in Yamanouchi in the spring. The cherry blossoms along the river we gorgeous and contrasted with the snow topped peaks of the mountains. The town was pretty chill, nice little cafes like the sun cafe and a cool beer cafe called the WDAY Cafe and Bat. The temple walk and the visit to the snow monkeys just gorgeous. To get to the snow monkeys is a tough walk up into the mountains- not for the faint hearted but you can drive up or take a bus up. It

The city of Suwa is a small town with a nice downtown.

The city of Suwa is a small town with a nice downtown. Many small shops and nice restaurants, some of which participate in a network of alternative approaches to sustainability and energy efficiency. The town is well maintained and offers a public foot bath at the lakefront as well as at the train station. The bicycle path (16 km) around the lake is safe with clear signage. There many small footpaths through the neighborhood to get to the park overlooking the lake - no need to only follow the road. However, these could be marked a little better. Overall, Suwa is lovely.

Kiso has some interesting elements connected to the old Nakasendo route, with small historic areas, traditional buildings, and a few characteristic spots such as the hot spring foot bath. However, overall the town felt rather ordinary and semi-industrial, with the various points of interest scattered around and not really integrated into a cohesive tourist experience. There is a small historic district that is pleasant to visit, but outside of that the overall impression is more of a local town than a truly structured tourist destination. Probably interesting as a short stop along the Nakasendo route, but different from what we expected when imagining a more immersive and characteristic historic village.

So easy to get to by train from Nagoya or Nagano, station right across the road. Bus station to/from all the best places around. Plenty of parking if driving. The Izumiya cafe next door brings new life to the town. The local Sun Shop Ishikawa supermarket for all your needs just a 2 mn walk away to take home and cook up a storm in the great kitchen and dining area. We took the local bus from across the street to Magome to walk the Nakesendo trail to Tsumago and then caught the bus right back to our doorstep via a great coffee in the cafe next door. Great spot for walks/hikes/bike rides you name it!

We initially planned to stay only a night in Matsumoto and directly go to Kanazawa the next day but we ended up staying a whole day in Matsumoto, going from temples to shrines to emples, meeting lovely people like Haruki (hopefully I remembered his name correctly...) who recently opened Ko-Hi-ya ISAMI, a small bar/cafe in front of a generous bakery in the Nawate Shopping Street. He was very lovely and we discussed for a while. One of the greatest experiences of our trip so far!
