This has been the most amazing (1 month) stay for us at any kind of rental property for several reasons. The house has both, a traditional Japanese flair and the most modern amenities. The furniture, fixtures and appliances were all of high quality brands. The kitchen, bathroom, bathtub, toilet, water dispenser, air con, TV etc, even the beds were great, although we have back problems and are very picky regarding that. Everything was spotless, as if newly built. Inside the house it was very calm, Wifi worked well and we had everything needed to cook and stay comfortably. The surrounding area is calm and breathtakingly beautiful, with traditional homes and lovely gardens—like a picture book. If you look at the area in Google Maps Streetview you'll know what we mean. Of course Aira has many attractions, but the one that inspired the house’s name is even right nearby: Japan’s largest tree at the local shrine-a mystical, beautiful place. The above alone makes this a very special place and even though it's obviously in the "country side", it’s unexpectedly convenient even without a car: the bus stop is only a 3-minutes walk and even the airport shuttle stops there, so we could arrive directly from the airport. A supermarket and farmers’ market are just a few meters farther, and a convenience store is about a 5-minutes walk. There are also lovely cafes and unique restaurants. We often see "the owner is nice" in reviews. In our case, the landlord was genuinely kind and caring. We felt welcome and looked after throughout our month. We’ll keep the details private, and of course every stay is different, but the owner's warmth truly made our time here special. We will come back for certain!

This is a really lovely renovated Samurai home that was built over 100 years ago. They’ve renovated it in a way that really preserves the original feel but the new additions are luxurious. It’s also located in an older Samurai village so the surrounding area is very cool as well. Super quiet, lovely wood bath tub, and a lot of character. This is a really unique place to stay and we loved it. We came to see the migrating cranes and it’s about 20 minute drive from there. We had dinner at a great spot nearby that our hosts recommended, they were very welcoming and kind.
