Featuring a restaurant, bar and views of river, Sorya Guesthouse is located in Kratie, 6 miles from Phnom Sambok Pagoda. Thanks to the polite and caring staff. We were helped to arrange a transfer from another city to this hotel. The hotel employee knew English well and helped us a lot. We liked the hotel. Convenient location and nice rooms. The hotel has a restaurant. From here it is convenient to start the journey to the dolphins.
Set amid natural greenery just a 10-minute boat ride from Koh Trong Island, Soriyabori Villas Resort offers a peaceful retreat in traditional Cambodian accommodations. Fascinating place. The resort is on an island in the middle of the Mekong River and is set in a banana plantation. Accommodation is in a traditional Khmer dark wood bungalow with its own terrace - a unique experience and very comfortable. Very helpful and charming staff. Well worth a visit.
The town has a great market and walking along the riverside is fun. There is not much action on Grab/PassApp, but everything in town is walkable anyway. The dolphin boat ride was beautiful and exciting! The locals seem to really care about the dolphins and the boat driver knew exactly where to find them. I don't usually go on tours but I am glad I went on one in Kratie. There are some neat things around the area that we never have discovered by just looking at the map. I would recommend hiring a local guide to take you.
Lovely city, we stayed there on our way to Sen Monorom and I am pleased we stopped there. We went to see the dolphins and the temple on the hill. We also went to the island with the boat, it was great as there were a lot of people due to a holiday. It's not a big city, so it's easy to get around by foot. People are very friendly.
Spend 1 or 2 days in Kratie to kayak and see the dolphins. The route down the river to the dolphin sighting area is simply gorgeous. Do stay at the Silver Dolphin Guesthouse and Restaurant as their rooms are value-for-money and their food is great. Make sure you engage Dolphin Kayaking Adventures as the guide, Lucky, is very friendly and experienced. You will definitely get to see Dolphins and much more if you sign up for his tour.
Try to spread the business and go with a local tuctuc driver. I met a nice one with good english who showed me the wole area and told me all the different stories of the sites. He also gave me a great introduction into khmer street food
Kratie is like the river city that tourists have forgotten which adds to appeal as you are often not within sight of other tourists besides close to the hotels. Next time we'll spend more time at Koh Trong!!
If you want to have restful holidays and be nearer to nature, Kratie is one of the right places to go in Cambodia. The Irrwaddy dolphins are elusive and rare some days, but other days you can really enjoy and take good pictures.
Pool is reasonably clean and well maintained. We are one of the few first guests since the pandemic. The room is good size, big enough for our family to share. The staffs are brilliant, super friendly and very helpful, they help to organize the trip to see the river dolphin as well as our transport back to Phnom Penh. The restaurant is great, we spent lengthy time there, food as surprisingly good, and the happy hour is awesome.
A very simple guesthouse. Beautiful setting. Couple in charge friendly and very quick to deal with standard requests. But English is limited and would recommend to book buses tours etc in Kratie town. No Wifi so we used the restaurant next door mainly for that reason.
Everything. They upgraded us for free and our room was amazing with everything we needed. The staff are all super friendly and the kayaking tour we did to see the dolphins was brilliant. The cafe is lovely for sunset drinks - all reasonably priced.
The setting was lovely, pool warm enough to swim, very peaceful and relaxing. Hiring a moto from them and riding around the island was great fun. The dolphin trip was nice although the dolphins themselves were a little underwhelming.
