I recently visited Almaty, and it was an unforgettable experience! The city beautifully blends modernity with rich history, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. I particularly enjoyed exploring the vibrant Green Bazaar, where I sampled local delicacies and fresh produce.
Visiting the iconic Medeu ice rink and taking a cable car up to the Chimbulak ski resort was a highlight, providing breathtaking scenery and great outdoor activities. The architecture, especially the stunning Zenkov Cathedral, added a unique charm to the city.
However, navigating the public transport system took a bit of getting used to, and I wish I had more time to explore the nearby natural parks. Overall, Almaty exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a mix of culture, adventure, and natural beauty!

Firstly beware of rogue taxi drivers at airport, usually parked on left side of the exit doors. download yandex go and this will allow you to summon a car instead at the airport.
secondly if you drive beware of poor road manners, and pedestrians who just walk out onto the road to stop cars as they cross. you can spot these crossings as yellow and white strips. this is esp dangerous at night / dusk
Food is cheap, clothes and shoes expensive. locals are friendly helpful people. if you travel into the mountains bring money as you have to pay a small amount to get through / access the mountains payment is made to park rangers. city has amazing buildings which you can access by walking around as parking can be difficult to find.

Almaty is wonderful .
Almaty is wonderful . A few recommendations: If you are planning to use Taxi I would recommend to buy local SIM card because the only way to get the car is to use App installed on your phone with local phone number. If you are planning to use public transportation, I recommend to buy specials card to pay for a ride because Driver would not accept cash

Almaty is not ready for international tourism yet.
Almaty is not ready for international tourism yet. They've started hostels and hotels but they lack the hospitality and logistics to support that. The biggest hitch will be that nobody speaks English in Kazakhstan. When you land at the airport there's no tourist information. Shops are not interested in helping you and they speak very basic English and get annoyed when you say something they don't understand. Taxi drivers are out to scam and loot you. 3 apps you can't survive without that you should download BEFORE you reach Kazakhstan are:
1. Yandexgo cabs and food delivery app
2. 2gis maps
3. Google translate
You also need a local sim to call yandex cabs.
No hostel or hotel had any tour operators' info or help. They also didn't generally help me to go around. People are actually nice when you talk to them and are mostly sweet and helpful but the initial lack of communication is tough.

Almaty is a beautiful city, surrounded by tree lined roads, coffee-shops, cozy pubs and restaurants.. The people are nice though English is not widely spoken but we can easily manage with any translation app.
The trips to the lakes, canyon and other nature points are really enjoyable..
It is quite a modern city, buzzing with life, affordable, safe and friendly. Very easy to get around town by bus or taxis,
A definite must visit place!!
Absolutely 5 star hotel like.even the name of this new complex Is four seasons. The apartment is sparkling clean.Very comfortable bed,and lovely design details which makes it feel you at home.Easy access for early or late arrival. The owners are always in touch, very kindly asking if I need anything.New apartment, new building at the best location of Almaty.Amazing views. Next to biggest supermarket, and all facilities. I look forward to come back to this beautiful apartment and stay longer.
The front desk staff doesn't speak much English but they always did their best to help me. The wifi internet was solid and fast. They actually have an elevator unlike a lot of hotels in Almaty.
The location was good as it was within walking distance to some of the tourist attractions.
Room was great, the hotel is very nice, Actually they have cheaper rates for some of the rooms that are not renovated but the hotel is a well-known and traditional hotel in Almaty. Breakfast was amazing, views too.
