Very hot dry tropical weather but a lot of architectural culture at their local Catholic Churches affordable hotel and hostel. Walking dances good local food. Also poneloya beach 20 minutes driving .
Really hot so choose accomodation wisely! (With a pool, garden or aircon!). The ease of access to volcano hikes is great, and the street food near the cathedral beats any restaurant! Check out the markets and some rooftop bars for a good feel of the city
The restaurants in the center of the city are excellent. As a vegetarian, I was surprised to find two restaurants that had superb vegetarian offerings. Seeing the city from the roofs of the cathedrals was wonderful. Most inspiring was the museum of the Revolution. We also enjoyed seeing the students leaving their schools in their beautiful uniforms.
This town sparkles and glows on the Nicaraguan Holiday of Purisima ( Dec 15 or so ) Get your room early, go to the Cathedral, hear the Choir , and then go door to door, with the rest Of the people. A cross between Halloween and Christmas , but just makes you feel joyful, and like a child again.
I enjoyed Leon a ton. It's an easy city to walk around and wander, so you can easily get to different attractions and restaurants. We went to the Catedral de Asunción and did all the tours- going to the roof was the best part because we had incredible views of Leon and the surrounding volcanos. We ate at El Sesteo, Katu Cafe, our hotel Hostal Casa Abierta, Hotel Austria, and a few other places that were all delicious. El Sesteo is especially great for people watching because it's right on a main city square. We also went volcano boarding at Cerro Negro but unfortunately it poured the whole morning so everyone kept getting stuck on their boards and it didn't quite work. It was still a cool experience though. We were here during the protests and didn't have any problems. The only unfortunate thing is the place was pretty empty of other tourists since so many people cancelled their trips. We met some cool people, but most locals said tourism was way down and it's normally much more crowded.
High temperatures, city not clean, hard to find places to eat (pan y paz was a very good place with a/c), I was expecting way more from the museums of La Revolución and Ruben Darío Its inexpensive, you can move to other cities easily in shutles for good prices.

The caretaker was so accommodating and upgraded us for minimal and changed out our USD for cordoba at check out. The hotel courtyard is occupied by a beautiful garden, which is really well maintained in a lovely setting to hang out or to eat breakfast in. The complimentary breakfast is served at whatever time you need it to be and was generous compared to the other hotels we stayed at. The hotel is quiet and though the rooms are not air-conditioned we were comfortable at night, even In the heat of the day.

Nice Hotel, we felt very safe cause the door was always locked. You can park the car in the middle of the hotel area/ garden, so you don't have to park it on the street. Rooms are typically, easy standard with fan, clean.
