I was there the days before Christmas. The village was charmingly decorated with lights. Perfect bus connections to Maastricht and Heerlen. Beautiful surroudings (with hills) for hikes, and a lovely evening stroll through the center. I also went to the nearby Triangle border where Holland meets Germany and Belgium: within a few seconds you are in a different country haha. And very special: you are at the highest point of the Netherlands! I definitely want to come back soon and rent a bike and cruise through the beautiful nature. And I want to visit the museum. Oh, and the market on Tuesday morning. And not to forget: taste the typical 'Limburgse vlaai'. Yummy!
Vaals is a nice clean town with plenty of places to eat. Some of the more recent development there has spoilt it a little but there is some great walking from there and it is very popular with cycling enthusiasts. The frequent bus services to nearby Aachen and beautiful Maastricht make it a place where you can leave the car behind.
What immediately struck us was the cleanliness in the streets. We walked parts of the old city and that was wonderful. Also visited some churches to see what it looked inside. What we saw was quite interesting. When you are there on a Tuesday: visit the market, there is quite a variety of vegetables, fruits, sweets (try a lovely "Rozijnenbrood" a specialty in the Netherlands). There are wonderful plants and flowers and a lot more that might attract you. We went to a place that looked nice and clean to have a lunch and came back the next day, as it was just very good. Sorry, did not list the name....
Was a sleepy little town which made you feel very welcome..almost like coming home.. the locals were lovely and so helpful..needs to be repeated ..and would recommend to friends who want a pretty and peaceful few days.
We went to the 3 landen punt and enjoyed standing in 3 countries in less than 1 minute. Great playground for the little one to let off steam. Had a lovely pizza and pasta at della mamma. Wish we had had more time.
The hotel is a fully restored Chateau which keeps the history of a bygone age alive. The value for money is very good making this unique experence available for all. The high vaulted ceilings and chandlers add to the feeling of grandeur.
