A Once Ancient Capital Full Of Life

Located on the banks of Trondheimsfjord and famous for being the original capital of Norway, Trondheim is a charming, historic and lively city which offers vast greenery, several museums and several technology-oriented institutions.

It has an array of colourful old storehouses and traditional buildings with red-brick rooftops which line the city’s streets and waterways waterwayswhere you can also find bridges such as the Old Town Bridge.

Visit the waterfront Ringve Botanical Gardens which houses the Ringve Museum and Ladestien, perfect for a stroll. A popular day excursion to Monk’s Island is easily accessible via ferry around the Hurtigruten Terminal Trondheim.

In the heart of the city features many museums and historic landmarks such as the National Museum of Decorative Arts, Middle Ages Exhibition, Nidaros Cathedral, and The Archbishop’s Palace, just to name a few. Driven by a large student population, Trondheim buzzes with life all day long as is evident in the various bars, nightclubs, restaurants and pavement cafés spread across the city.

You can see Trondheim center in 24 hours, no need to stay longer. It is a clean city with great architecture and history and atmosphere. Try Habitat for great beet and Mat fra Hagen for great vegan food.

A fascinating city with many historic buildings. Nidaros Cathedral is stunning, the museums are very good and the history concerning St Olav makes this a very special place to learn more about the history of Norway 🇳🇴

It has a great feel to it and it's small enough to visit on foot and the railway station is centrally located. Very disappointed with the cathedral, old town and museum there. The folk museum just outside the town is brilliant with old buildings re-sited and furnished and equipped as they were in their heyday - anything from 1750 to early 20th century. We ate very well in Trondheim, the people were friendly and helpful. One thing to be aware and that is getting information isn't the easiest so research what you want to visit before you get there

Trondheim is a good place to spend a day or two particularly if hopping on or off a ferry whilst doing the Norwegian Coast route. Would not recommend as a destination in its own right for visits of more than 2 days.

The place is beautiful. If you can, rather book a hotel or backpackers hostels. My experience of booking an apartment was terrible. So if travelling for a big event, book well in advance, and book hotels!

Everything is great — both the nature around the city and the city itself are beautiful. My main piece of advice would be to visit Egon Tårnet — a restaurant located in a tower with stunning views of the city and the fjord. The tower slowly rotates about 360° per hour, so you get to see the entire city while you dine. The food is excellent as well. People everywhere speak English, so getting help or service in English is no problem. The only downside is the prices — they can be quite high.

Generous with coffee and tea available in the lounge. Fika in the afternoon was particularly good. Having an evening meal included in the cost really helped make the hotel be good value for money - and the food was good too. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable.
