We enjoyed the hotel and its village feeling. We did not have time to visit the museum there, but just by walking around, we got the feeling of the restoration that took place there, reusing a tuna fishing workshop. The room was not very big, but we had a small terrace to rest late in the afternoon (take repellent!). The swimming pool, spa, and interior pool are all great. The breakfast is also good, but needs more frequent replenishment, as the hotel is very big and with many people there supplies disappear very fast.

It is very easy to find the hotel with a gps. It is not in the city centre, but we were able to drive easily into town and park.
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Coffee is available 24/7 in the lobby.
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Don Rodrigues. Our room was spacious, clean and had everything as described in the amenities list.
Breakfast was something to mention. It had everything one would expect af a normal continental breakfast, but what made it special was a cake table with at least eight different kinds of cakes and tarts. They even had a pasteie de Nata, like a custard tart, that was really delicious. How I wish I could get the recipe. ;-D
On check-out they gave each of us a very special pen, which was a nice surprise.
I can recommend this hotel to anyone travelling on a budget.

A lovely town with great restaurants and bars, shops and some lovely old buildings. Good public transport links - train, bus and boat - to nearby towns, villages and beaches. It can be busy, but it has a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Tavira is nice, but the stones polished by decades of cars and foot traffic made the sloping sidewalks/roads feel almost treacherous. This is not the location to get away from freezing rain. Some of the old area in the east side is undergoing upgrades to the water system, which means it may be dusty.

Cute little city full of 70 year old tourists.
Cute little city full of 70 year old tourists. Few restaurants other than Indian food. Little shopping. Beaches nice but very difficult to access. Pararia do barrill involves street parking then walking a half mile to a train which will take you 1 mile to the beach for 2eu each way. Or you can walk on a slanted broken walkway all the way. At the beach there is one overpriced restaurant.
Overall Tavira is Not family friendly at all.

We are scoping out retirement options so were looking for walkability and reliable public transportation. Tavira offers both! Local market is full of fresh meat, fish, fruits and vegetables along with wares such as baskets and cut flowers. Lots of restaurants and shops. Walking distance to train which we took to the eastern border then hopped a ferry to Spain for lunch. We opted out of the hotel breakfast and found a cafe across the river for coffee and avocado toast one day, another day we went to the Pingo Doce grocery store for coffee and a breakfast sandwich. We tried a different restaurant for dinner every night and every meal was fantastic. If we had to do it over again, we would not have rented a car. The metro, train and bus system is reliable and comfortable as well as much cheaper and less stressful.

Loved the Friendliness in this nice quaint old town, unfortunately the roads / streets were in process of being dug up & left rather unsafe ( we witnessed a lady falling).. lots of cobbled streets which were left unfinished. Hopefully they will complete soon for travellers & residents to enjoy this lovely town.

Tavira is full of character and has an obvious love of its history and heritage. It offers the opportunity to have a beach holiday without it being forced upon you. Wander down all the back streets and find new places.
We mostly self-catered but there are many restaurants with differing cuisines. Take a punt - it will probably pay off. If you like octopus take a trip to Santa Luzia just 3km away. It is a charming fishing port and the octopus catching centre of Portugal
Quinta Almargem Lusitano was very beautiful place to rest. The host and her husband made us feel like part of the family. Impeccably clean and the food was better then we received in many restaurants! Fresh juices each morning from their own grown fruit trees. Fresh egg from the chicken on their farm. A relaxing environment to rest, pool to swim and 5 minute drive to the center of Tavira! The beaches on the strand are very comfortable and renting chase lounges w/ sun shields out of Barrell wee great!
Far and away my best accommodation over the last 2.5 weeks in Portugal
(and I was staying in 4 and 5 star hotels). Picture an old, historical mansion left vacant for decades. The new owners spent 3 years carefully keeping the old "bones" but modernizing it for savvy, contemporary guests and adding a design aesthetic which is bold yet pleasing and comfortable. Add a beautiful pool and deck area, excellent meals, kind and service-oriented owners and staff, and you have an experience to remember.
Before arriving I got a big Emil about their rules. Little posters everywhere about rules. It felt like I was in Germany and not Portugal. Bathroom a bit tight but was fine for a few days. Bonus huge rooftop patio and kitchen. You have to pay for coffee but kitchen stocked with beer and such to pay for. Good convenience. Room could be a bit noisy when other guests open the doors or talk when entering. Location is in the middle of the action!
beautiful little hotel with a great swimming pool, many chill out areas and an overall relaxed atmosphere. every room is perfectly clean. amazing breakfast with plenty of fruits, egg variations and sweets. Geraldine is a wonderful and very humorous host! her tips on restaurants, beaches and activities were on point. quiet surroundings while very close to Tavira. we liked it so much that we stayed longer than planned.
The staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. The hotel was very tranquil and peaceful which was great at the end of a month touring and walking Portugal and Spain. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We loved the view from our room, with the garden and the ocean in the background.
The rooftop area was a lovely place to sit with a book, have a drink, and enjoy the room (and the sun!)
We have been travelling around Portugal staying in lots of different places and I can say this was the best by far.
Centrally located, quiet enough though, all the facilities etc etc.
The main thing is the effort put in made it a perfect stay.
There is just enough character to the property that its charming and still functional, a difficult balance usually.
Fabulous boutique hotel in central Tavira with restaurants, bars, ferry to beach etc all a few minutes away. Lovely traditional breakfast and staff extremely kind and helpful. Nothing was too much to ask - restaurant bookings, airport shuttle, timetables, etc. Would highly recommend as a very traditional, unique and endearing hotel.
Friendly staff and efficient check-in. Lovely room, good size. Quiet with blackout curtains. Balcony and fridge. Beds clean and comfy. Kettle and tea bags in room (unusual for Portugal), but no milk supplied. Large bathroom with walk in shower.
Breakfast 7.30-10.30 - good selection of hot and cold food.
Beautiful boutique hotel and staff was very warm and professional. The advise on local restaurants provide by Mario was perfect! Monica and dining staff were efficient and helpful. This is an exceptional place to stay and enjoy the beauty of Tavira. The bar/restaurant downstairs was wonderful.
Jose was truly the best host. He has such pride in his transformed family property. His love for his role and attention to detail is unmatched. The property is beautiful, centrally located and has everything you need. Super easy to park your car. It is a must book if you stay in Tavira.
The front desk girl is amazing (didn’t get her name). She is very focused on the customers and works constantly! Room was so charming in this historic hotel in downtown Tavira super close to everything! Breakfast was amazing too!
Lovely apartment, kitchen had everything you needed to cook a few meals and in a good location for a stroll to the town (15 min walk ) and train station just down the road, would certainly go there again if visiting Portugal.
Love the location, authenticity (you feel like you are in Portugal) and ambience. All staff are very helpful & friendly. Good that you can hire beach towels. Breakfast is excellent with a good variety.
Loved Tavira! The hotel was comfortable, clean and had a lot of charm. Our room was large enough and the bed was great. The staff were exceptionally warm and helpful.
- Extraordinary Breakfast included
- Excellent location and facility
- Very attentive and helpful staff
- Must be the best shower in Portugal in the room
- very safe
