Hotel Sun, leclub resort hotel, and De la Trinidad Hotel got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Encarnación.
Encarnacion is a really nice moderately-sized city which thankfully lacks the congestion of the capital. The coastline is nicely done. It is located conveniently close to the famous Jesuit ruins. It has excellent restaurants and reasonably priced hotels and resorts.
The town is pleasant with a very long Costernara to stroll down. There are some interesting houses with beautiful gardens in the center of town (look for the "Honorary Counsel to the Ukraine's" fantastic mansion--he's a business magnate). There's a good nanduti shop on the main commercial street a few blocks from Plaza de Armas. Not a great deal in the way of shopping or convenient restaurants . A day trip to the Jesuit ruins is easy and worthwhile.
I was taken aback by how nice Encarnacion was. The city is safe and clean, the people are friendly, there are things to see and do (good restaurants, beaches, ruins.) I'm a big fan of Curitiba as well, but Encarnacion might be the nicest city I've been to in South America.
"3rd largest city in Paraguay" - founded 400 years ago in 1615, or so they proudly proclaim - but you will be hard-pressed to find any building that looks more than about 50 years old. I live in Posadas for several months every year - the only reason I come here is that you can draw USD from ATM's which you cannot do in Posadas any more. You can also get some imported goods - electronics, etc - much cheaper than in Argentina which has high import duties. Just after the immigration (end of bridge) there is a sprawling scruffy "Zona Commercial" with lots of small shops - mostly run by Chinese or Lebanese merchants - selling imported stuff, but mostly poor quality and often cheap copies or rejects or re-cycled stuff. Its cheaper than Argentina but much more expensive than USA and even Europe with their high VAT rates. As for the rest of the town/city - about 2/3 km further on - there is not much to say for it. The sprawling Costanera (riverside) is rather bleak - vast expanses of grass but no trees, no shade of any sort - and summers are very hot here..! The big attraction - for Paraguayans that is - is the manufactured beach nearby which are a few bland new cafes and restaurants, but nothing special.
Very easy walking in town excellent restaurants Hiroshima for Japaneses food and Heladio Makos for coffee ice cream and pastries However the Jesuit ruins are well worth visiting Fauanparaguay runs half day trips
This is a lovely place to visit. The beachfront is great with sandy beach and a lovely view of Pousadas across the water. Sunsets are nice. It also has myriad of restaurants from Macdonalds to some super classy places to while away the hours. The Missions were beautiful and there is a lot to see and do around Encarnacion.
Nothing bad to say about this place. Very pleasantly surprised actually for the price, they could charge a lot more! Spotlessly clean rooms, lovely kind and welcoming staff and brilliant location right near the beach and nice restaurants. The staff were super helpful in assisting me booking a trip to the Jesuit ruins nearby too.
