Gothenburg is a very nice travel destination for families! We loved Alfons Åbergs Kulturhus, which is an interactive museum (for kids under 7, I would say). In Universeum, there are cool science exhibits, an aquarium and a terrarium, a rainforest to explore, and much more (all ages!). The botanical garden is perfect for picnics and strolls. There are many well-maintained playgrounds throughout the city. You can also take a boat ride through the canals or along the coast. It depends on your expactations.
It depends on your expactations. It is a big busy city and it feels just like that. The trams and busses are always there. There are a lot of shops but is that really how you want to spend your time all of the time? When i was there the renovations where always there on every corner of the street. The best thing was the boat tour around the islands. I warmly recommend it. Take away food is very convenient and saves money. City center offers nice architecture, althought nothing spectacular. For me Gothenburg is a city that lacks Swedish identity.
For me Gothenburg is a city that lacks Swedish identity. It was hard to find genuine Swedish restaurants / pubs in addition to there being not much history on show (despite a rich history based on what is on show in the city museum). There is still plenty to do in terms off attractions but alot of these can be done in any city. The beds were comfy, the kitchen was well equipped and the shared bathroom clean. We also liked the outside terrace for chill out, coffee, tea and a snack. We were lucky, it was sunny all the time. We could store our bags since we arrived early, and when check in came around this was sorted very quickly altough the hotel was full for the Göteborgsvarvet weekend. The two main things that stood out was the lovely staff and the amazing breakfast buffet! The sauna and jacuzzi, which you can book from the reception, was also very nice.
