The hotel has a great location and very convenient for getting around

I'm just grateful I was able to experience Kabul generally. It's a privilege. I didn't expect much when traveling here. But, Afghania Guest House met and exceeeded all my needs. The location was ideal and central, I was one block away from a main street with food, stores and the like. I mostly walked in the city, but did take a short taxi ride to Babur Gardens. The facility was VERY secure, with a windowless main entrance where you have to buzz and wait for a staff member to open. The staff were very friendly and responded promptly, like when I asked for hot water to make my coffee. The room met my basic needs, nothing special but that's not a bad thing. You get what you pay for. It was very quiet, probably because there aren't many people visiting Kabul overall. I met one group of what I believe were temporary-stay foreign workers or business visitors. There's a Taliban checkpoint on the corner but they never stopped me in my 3 days there. It's also right across the street from the Iranian embassy.

Rostam Qarib is a great host! Upon arrival he upgraded our room to the best one in the hotel - a nice suite with a beautiful view over Kabul. The hotel is walking distance from restaurants, parks, chicken street and other notable places. He arranged for us a trusted driver to show us around Kabul’s main attractions.
