My stay at Mario Cesare was the highlight of my trip to Sardinia and one that I will never forget! A traditional artist's studio beautifully renovated but respectful of the history of the building, and the artist who lived there. The bed was comfortable and I woke to the sound of bells and birds. Breakfast every morning was provided by my charming host Guilia in the front garden. You need to stay more than one night to appreciate this unique place.

this is a beautifuly built and decorated facility. It has lots of parking (which was important to me). I never read the reviews until just before leaving and one concerned me. However I was staying in the town during Easter Monday after visiting the UNESCO site nearby.
I was the only visitor booked for the night and thankfully the host called me at 16.15 to arrange to meet. It is designed to be self check in really. I had been outside and given how that was maintained, I wondered if the facility had been abanoned.
It has to be said that the room was AMAZING, the shower OUT OF THIS WORLD and the common areas were charming.
Dating back to the 1600s, Antica Locanda Lunetta still has original stone walls, wood-beamed ceilings and an internal courtyard. Set in Mandas historic centre, it is in the heart of Sardinia.

A very nice location -- in the countryside but just 10 10-minute walk from a small town. It is a real rural atmosphere. Classical Italian dinner is very nice.

We received a very warm welcome from Agostino, who even made us tea on arrival. He also recommended the nearby fabulous agriturismo, Le Vigne Ducali, for what turned out to be a wonderful evening meal. We had very nice breakfasts each morning. Agostino's wife kindly drove is to the station to catch the Trenino Verde. Their hospitality was superb.

A beautiful town with lots to do. We visited Domu Antiga (hotel) for dinner and would have loved to
try their cooking classes if we had time. We visited the stunning Olianas winery and learned about their biodynamic wine making process- and tasted their unique orange wine. We visited nearby Escolca where Sa Mola olive oil producers are based and we were able to taste their delicious extra virgin olive oil! They also have a camping experience. Everyone was so passionate and friendly and helpful.

Gergei is a good base to explore the area around Barumini and the Su Nuraxi site, Parco della Giara with wild horses, and the surrounding towns. Gergei is very small and there isn't a lot to do in the town itself, but it's lovely with stone buildings and a small church. We went to Su Nuraxi and the Casa Zapata museum, and walked 5km in the Giara, where you can also rent bikes (it's fairly large). We had a nice dinner at La Taverna Del Conte in Gesturi. We were only there one night but would have stayed longer, especially to enjoy the house and gardens of Mario Cesare.
