The actual, shared Onsen is very nice. It's the only Onsen I saw in Japan, and I cannot compare, but it was surprisingly nice for me. Separated for men and women. Lovely place. Also, on the outside a place for just bathing the feet. Wifi was free. Despite proximity to station, there was no noise from the station.

We love the historic building, that it is right by the river and the sound of river is just so soothing. The staff here are all very friendly and nice. The food is excellent, we have both breakfast and dinner at this grand dinning hall that used to be the biggest meeting place for the town, the tree outside the window, the sound of water just transform this hotel into a movie set. will definitely come back again. There are so many varieties of food here, I am still mouth watering 3 weeks after my trip. The most unexpected part of this hotel stay is the train station near by, it has hydragea flower all over the station, it's magical , also there is a small shrine, every turn on the road back to the hotel is an adventure. Just love the feeling of walking in the wood and listen to the sound of water.
