United StatesThe moment I walked in the staff greeted me for check in. Everyone was so warm and friendly. I don’t speak Japanese, so they gave me all of the information I needed about the lovely ryokan in English. I was helped to my room by a nice gentleman.
I immediately got into my robe and slippers and enjoyed a beautiful and delicious dinner.
In the morning the gongs from the Naritasan temple invited me over. I sat through one of the most memorable experiences of my life…a Buddhist fire ceremony. I can’t describe it, just incredible. I walked the extensive gardens and returned to the ryokan for a filling and delicious vegetarian breakfast, fit for a sumo! :)
I wish I could return with my family to show them what a warm and wonderful place Wakamatsu Honten is.

We travelled with our one year old baby, so were able to create a little area for their portacot. I think we chose the Corner Room, as it was that little bit bigger. We also booked at Narita Airport Hotel, as we arrived at night, and it saved us a few hours getting into Tokyo with a baby. That way, the baby could go straight to sleep. So a perfect hotel for your way back. It is big and has many facilities. Even shops. Ofcourse the onsen. Also very child friendly. The service is outstanding. We had left a pair of shoes in our last hotel. Everything has been done to have these delivered for our plane left. (Thanks for all the effort toward the staff). We booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We had 2 double beds and 2 single beds, which the kids said were pretty uncomfortable- they were sort of pop up beds. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was good and got some snacks at the convenience store at the hotel. We opted for breakfast included and it was great! The room furniture had corner protectors and the window can't be opened, so it's 100% kid and baby friendly. There was zero cigarette smell in the whole hotel, which is quite unique in Japan. The bed was huge and very comfortable for 3 of us. Breakfast is truly fantastic, Western and traditional options, the best I had in Japan. Many vegetarian and healthy options.
