Featuring an open-air bath and views of garden, 雲曼 Sky Cloud静聆听花园民宿 is a recently renovated homestay located in Lijiang, 500 metres from Fang Guoyu's Former Residence. With city views, this accommodation provides a patio. Boasting family rooms, this property also provides guests with an outdoor fireplace. The cleanliness of the room and location was perfect. The staff (ie Jing Jing) went above and beyond to make us feel at home. They also helped organize our day trips. The A/C is strong relative to most places we have stayed at in China.

Attractively set in the Wuhua District district of Kunming, Moon and Chalice Boutique Hotel is situated 1.5 km from Golden Horse and Jade Rooster, 1.6 km from Jiaosanqiao Station and 2.4 km from Tangzixiang Station. Among the facilities at this property are a shared lounge and room service, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The property is 700 metres from the city centre and 1 km from Dongfeng Square Station. I loved the location in the old town and the tasteful decoration with really nice details and attention. Also the manager Lili gave very useful tips on what to do in Kunming and assisted me with travel arrangements as well !

Only a short 1-minute stroll from Shuhe Ancient Town, The Bivou features accommodation in local and modern styles combined together. Blending in by making use of the barbecue facilities, lazing in soothing massage, going horse riding or enjoying a fun time with your children at kids’ club seems like a nice getaway. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas. The hospitality and care for the wellness of their guests go beyond expectations and anything I have ever experienced in a hotel. From the first moment of walking through the doors and being greeted by May and HeiMi (the cat), I felt the warmness of stepping foot into Bivou-instantly, I was at a place that felt like home. Right when we stepped through the threshold, we were offered homemade bread (that I could still taste even now) and some delicious apple tea. The ayis (aunties) helped move our heavy luggage into the beautiful room, and spent time introducing the activities in the hotel, activities we could do around Lijiang, and different hikes that we could go on. Our room was so COMFORTABLE - high ceilings, spacious bathroom with a rain shower, clean and woodsy interior, and firm beds with warming mats. The welcome package included lotion, lip balm, and the most comprehensive maps of Lijiang, as well as a binder filled with activities to do. The activities weren't your typical "tourist" activities but they were incredibly curated, local gems like biking to Baishi village and going to see the Naxi orchestra (Nomi helped booked for us! Thank you!). The owner of Bivou is so fun and helpful - she gave us a map for Tiger Leaping Gorge and even helped us arrange a hotel on the trail! For a lot of my stay in Lijiang, I was sick (some food poisoning), but the ayis, especially May, kept me alive - not even exaggerating. They went out of their way to cook porridge for me, recommended and brewed red tea for my stomach ache, delivered homemade soup and dumplings up to the room, and changed the bed sheets at midnight for us. The Bivou cafe was the ONLY place I trusted to eat at because I wasn't feeling well. The food is so healthy, fresh, homecooked with love, and absolutely healing. Bivou is not your typical boutique hotel, not the Banyan, nor the Four Seasons.

Boasting mountain views, Timeless Inn offers accommodation with a garden, a bar and a shared lounge, around 500 metres from Guishan Park. Featuring a 24-hour front desk, this property also welcomes guests with a traditional restaurant and a sun terrace. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen, luggage storage space and currency exchange for guests. We had the most wonderful experience at Timeless Inn, and a huge part of it was thanks to the incredible hosts, Rose and her husband. From the moment we arrived, they treated us not just as guests, but like old friends. As it was our first time in Shangri-La, Rose’s tips and advice were incredibly helpful. She gave us detailed guidance on what to see and do around town, local restaurant recommendations, and even how to get to each place. Her insights really helped us make the most of our stay. She also helped us call for Didi rides and even woke up as early as 6am to accompany us outside and make sure everything went smoothly. Every morning, she prepared a delicious breakfast at our preferred time, always served with a smile and friendly conversation. She shared lovely stories about Shangri-La — what it was like in the old days versus now — which added so much depth to our experience. Her husband kindly picked us up from the airport and was equally warm and welcoming. He also offers transportation and guiding services to out of town attractions, which is a great option for anyone wanting a more convenient and insightful visit. On our last day, Rose recommended we go to Balagezhong instead of Shika Mountain — and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip! The inn itself has a cozy, homely feel. Rose even upgraded our room to the second floor with a beautiful view. Though the stairs are a bit steep, she insisted on helping us carry our large luggage. The location is excellent — right inside the Ancient Town, just steps from shops, restaurants, the Giant Prayer Wheel, and the central plaza where you can enjoy Tibetan dancing every evening. Being on the edge of the old town also made it super convenient for catching a Didi — only a 1–2 minute walk, so no need to haul luggage through narrow streets. We left Shangri-La with full hearts and unforgettable memories, thanks to Rose and her husband. If you're visiting Shangri-La, staying at Timeless Inn is a...
