It was bitingly cold, we were with a 3-month old baby. The hotel didn't just let us in to wait at the reception. They let us go to our room at 6:30 in the morning, way before check-in time. There is a communal zone with tea-making facilities, a microwave and a fridge. Very clean and convinient. We will be moving to Gijon soon, so we won't be needing a hotel, but we will recommend it at every opportunity. The hotel is in the historical centre of Gijon, but on a very quiet streat. The room and shower were super clean, bed comfortable.

The location was perfect for our visit to Cangas de Onís, it took 5 minutes to get to the centre by car and the apartment was peaceful and relaxing. Just what we were looking for..

Each room includes a flat-screen TV with cable channels. The bathroom comes with a bath or shower. So...when you are doing the Camino Primitivo, you are staying at albergues or hostels, very often in shared rooms. The Hotel Palacio de Meras is a four star hotel and only about €8 p/p more than a hostel if you are staying in a double room. We literally thought we were in the wrong place when we arrived. It felt so luxurious!!! The rooms are large and have all the perks of an expensive hotel - great quality soap and shampoo in the bathrooms, a two-sided adjustable make-up mirror, a hair dryer...a mini-fridge... It has a formal dining room, a bar and tables out in the plaza. The portions were insanely big and delicious. And the location is great. A block away from a supermarket, half a block from a pharmacy, and close to other key businesses like cafes, bakeries, and bars.
